A Serious Man Discussion (Spoilers) - Blu-ray Forum

So how is this film? I'm thinking of picking it up today. I love the Coen Brothers work and I've heard some interesting things about this film.

The most interesting comment would be that this is exactly the type of film you make after you win an Oscar.

So what's your take on this movie?

I'm surprised I couldn't find a single thread about it.

Great movie, up there with the best of the year (unlike The Orphan, which is up there with the worst

Seriously Mike, awesome movie...and it has one of the greatest trailer's I've EVER seen.

That's the thing, the trailer really got to me. Plus on top of that I love dark comedies. I've heard though that this is darker than most get.

The ending was quite a shock i.e. surprised how sudden it was. Definitely in line with other Coen films. That's all I'll say since the OP obviously hasn't seen it yet.

I can deal with a downer or two. I mean a favorite of mine is still and always will be Happiness. I even loved Storytelling. Would this be along those lines?

What's everybody's favorite part? I laugh everytime I get to these parts:

Rabbi Scott: I mean, the parking lot here. Not much to see. It is a different angle on the same parking lot we saw from the Hebrew school window. But if you imagine yourself a visitor, somebody who isn't familiar with these... autos and such... somebody still with a capacity for wonder... Someone with a fresh... perspective. Larry Gopnik: And... what happened to the goy?
Rabbi Nachtner: The goy? Who cares?
Classic!

And who could forget:

Larry Gopnik: I don't want Santana Abraxis! I've just been in a terrible auto accident!

I have seen this movie 4 times. It's another brilliant addition to the Coen collection.
