Default Deadliest Catch captain passes away

Captain Phil Harris passed away yesterday after having a severe stroke on January 29th. For those who watch "Deadliest Catch" on the Discovery Channel, he was one of the more flamboyant captains.

RIP Captain, you will be missed.

I used to watch this show all the time a few years ago. I am very sorry to hear this.

RIP Captain.

Ah man, sorry to hear this. Phil always seemed the least healthy of the captains. He will be missed.

Yeah, that;s what I heard too that he started talking again but apparently he had a massive stroke.

RIP man. He did what he loved doing up to the end.

It is sad, but may well be for the best. My Mother in law had a severe brain stem stroke at the age of 52. Strokes like that kill more than 90% of people, but she did survive because she was so healthy otherwise. It may sound wrong, but I often feel it would have been better for her had she not survived it. She can not walk, speak, use the left side of her body at all, very limited use of the right side; or even safely swallow food. She will live the rest of her life in a nursing home, subsisting on pureed foods and thickened liquids which cause her frequent repiratory infections due to aspiration. That often feels more tragic than death.

Sad news for sure. I'm not a huge Deadliest Catch fan but it seems every time there is a marathon I find myself watching it all day. Phil was definitely one of the more entertaining captains and he seemed to really enjoying what he did and teaching his sons.

Sadly, anyone who watched the show saw this coming. He seemed to be in poor health for a while now. RIP.

He was very sick that last couple of seasons. Seemed like he was going to be ok though since he decided to go back out on the boat. Sad news for sure. I really enjoyed him as part of the show.

It's true, he did look pretty bad the last season of the show. I was really surprised when he decided to try and go back out again so quickly. When they said he was starting to get better, I was hoping for the best. It's a real shame.
