The Advantages of a PS3

I was pretty much all set on getting a BDP-S300 player before I joined the forums, however, after reading through many of the threads it seems like the PS3 is the best choice with the best picture quality even though I do not play video games in any way, shape, or form.

I was wondering if people can list some advantages of getting the PS3 instead of a stand-alone player. Does it really give the best picture quality and what is the deal with the updates that everyone talks about?

I appreciate any help. I know this is probably a redundant topic but I'm really trying to figure out which player to get because I really want to get one this week to go along with my new HDTV that's being delivered this Saturday.
