Default Random Movie Picker

I'm home sick looking at my collection for a movie to watch and nothing is jumping out at me, but I'm very suggestible, so would it be possible (or even worthwhile) for there to be a feature on this website to pick a movie from your collection at random?

Maybe it's just the Nyquil talking but it seems like something I'd use...

Write down 20 movie titles on tiny strips of paper and toss them all into a hat and shake. Then close your eyes and pull out a movie name, there you go.

Heheh...Nyquil's a hell of a drug.

Good enough, that worked, but I can't count on you to randomly pick movies for me every time I'm feeling indecisive can I?

I'm a teacher and I have a program that can randomly pick students. I loaded that tool onto my home computer and put in movie titles for the same reason. The only downside is that it only holds like 44 names so I had to make multiple lists. I know this doesn't help you but thought I'd share that I have the same problem picking movies sometimes.

I think this would be a nice feature to the site. They could also use it to recommend purchases as well.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking about that option too - you could even filter by genre, PQ/AQ, those sorts of things.

Sounds like a good idea, but I'm looking for someone else to do the work for me!

I question the future of humanity when people need a program to help them make a random decision.

What happened to Eeeny Meeny Miny Moe?

For what it's worth, the "Movie Collector" program by Collectorz will show info for a random movie in your collection every time you launch the program, so that's an option (the program costs money, but there's a trial version).

Bah, randomizing was one of the first thing computers could do - the Snuggy makes me question the future of humanity more than what I've suggested.

Eeeny Meeny Miny Moe just wouldn't get me far enough into my collection to be truly random. I know there's a number of ways I could do this myself, but given that the site is functioning as the database for my movie collection at the moment, I just thought it might be useful if it could perform a few more of the functions that other database systems do.

that would work cause you can export a printable version of your movie list from this site and paste it into excel, adjust to columns and there you go, run the macro

My Blu Rays are on 8 shelves so I have a little cup handy with the numbers 1 -8 in it. I shake the cup up and randomly pull out a number. That is my technique. It doesnt specifically pick a movie but at least it narrows me down to a shelf.

Something they speak of on History Websites. A tool used before computers. It was a very, very dark time for humans.

A randomizer would be nice. I like the idea if it does it by PQ and such like someone above mentioned.

I use a cataloging program on the Mac called DVDpedia. One of the features is... you guessed it, "pick a random movie." :-)

Will it also watch the movie for me too, in case I don't have time to bother with that either?
