Talking Piranha 3D Review Thread (Use Spoilers)

This sounds like a wicked 3-D movie starring one of my favorite Cougars!

You may recall a couple of weeks ago, the great guys over at FEARnet running a rumour that involved "Cocktail" cutie Elisabeth Shue hippy-hippy-shaking her way into Alex Aja's "Piranha" remake. They've been trying to get confirmation for the past couple of weeks, but the Weinstein's seem intent on staying zipped. Had the opportunity to suss out the situation for them this weekend - and got 'em an answer.

Well, consider the rumour on the money. Deal is as good as done. I've now talked to two folks on the film - one being a writer on the 3-D project - who've confirmed that Mr Shue is indeed in negotiations to play the female lead.

This'll be quite the depature for 45-year-old Shue, whose best known for doing more meatier fare like "Leaving Las Vegas", "Mysterious Skin", "Molly" and "The Trigger Effect". Not that the sister of former Melrose fave Billy doesn't have a penchant for a good popcorn flick - she did, after all, star in two "Back to the Future" flicks (she replaced Claudia Wells as Jennifer from the first sequel onwards), the first "The Karate Kid", Paul Verhoeven's invisi-man thriller "Hollow Man", and the abovesaid drama-for-drunks "Cocktail", playing Tom Cruise's Waterfall Shag.

Shue is playing the role of Sherrif Julie Forester, a take-charge authority figure in the community of Lake Victoria - where the action/ankle-biting takes place. She's the mother of Jake (one of the central characters in the film - the shy teenager who gets to prove his worth when human-eating fish threaten his family and friends), Laura and Zane.

The supporting cast and background extras are being filled over the next fortnight.

Hope it's not another PG-13 remake. I actually liked the original movie.

I am really interested in this movie. If done right, I think this movie can be a lot of fun. This is the type of movie that should take advantage of 3-D.

hey take it easy on her Brass, not everybody can be a semi-successful CSI

And if her career continues this spiral she might let me make some home movies of her, and well I am all for that

Maybe she should consider a TV career instead of movies. And Brass is Capt of the homicide dept, not an actual CSI.

Seriously, why should she star in serious or indie films all the time? That's one of the perks of being an accomplished actor: you can choose the projects you want to be in. Accomplished does not mean A-rated and vice versa. If all they can do is make period films, then Colin Firth and Judy Dench would have retired long ago. Hell, even Robert Downey Jr. would never be Ironman.

Why? Movies, plays, etc have been done and re-made since the beginning. I don't hear anyone complain when their local High School re does Shakespeare's Taming of The Shrew or MacBeth. Honestly do what I do. Watch the trailer, if it looks good then go see it. Yes their is a lot of unoriginal material out there, but people get silly and breakdown the similarties of every movie. Hell people even tried to tell me that Wall-E was a remake of Short Circuit. When it gets to that point, step back and take a break for awhile.
