Default EA Sports Benches Major Sports Title

http://playstationlifestyle.net/2010...-sports-title/

Quote:
Bad news for EA Sports fans out there, as EA has canceled one of their major sports titles this year and the series as a whole is under review. Fans of March Madness might not be to happy to hear this news.

Many gamers might have noticed that NCAA Basketball 10 was missing from EA’s fiscall 2011 release list and speaking to IGN, the news is nothing but bad for NCAA Basketball fans.
We do not have an NCAA Basketball game in development at this time, and we’re currently reviewing the future of our NCAA Basketball business. This was a difficult decision, but we remain a committed partner to the NCAA and its member institutions.
What does this mean for NCAA Basketball fans? With EA canceling their yearly edition and with 2K Sports canceling theirs in 2008, those looking for some College B-Ball action are completely out of luck.
So for those of you who had planned on taking Bryant University to the Final Four, you’re out of luck.
We will let you know if EA Sports reconsiders their decision anytime soon.

I wonder if this is because of series profitability, or has to do with all the lawsuits regarding using the likeness of the NCAA players without paying them.

That is the major reason. The NCAA is making bundles in these contracts and the players are receiving nothing. While I enjoy NCAA basketball, I detest what the NCAA as become is the last 20 years.

I doubt that is the case here (about the NCAA players not receiving money). If it was then NCAA football would be cancelled too. Players in college cannot receive any money from the game which is why you don't see their names on the jerseys. NCAA Basketball games did not proffit is why I am guessing they cancelled the series.

I saw a few weeks ago on ESPN that NCAA is raising a stink about this with football as well, so college football might not be out of the woods yet either.

I can't say I'll miss it. I played a demo of this year's game for a bit at BestBuy, and it seemed terrible. At least graphically the game still looks years behind other sport games.

EA has already said that the lawsuit had nothing to do with their decision to not release this game and that NCAA Football will be released. Sales for the NCAA Basketball series were poor and that was the reason the game wasn't released. It never seemed like EA put a lot of effort into the NCAA Basketball series anyway. I gave up on it years ago. It's kind of hard to release a good game when there are 347 teams.

For those who want a good NCAA basketball game, pick up the last one made by 2K. It's a better playing basketball game than EA's game.

any ea sports game isnt good.
they are all catered to the 'average gamer'

2k sports games are catered to the sports fans who enjoy the Xs & Os of the game.

im glad ea closed this junk game.....hopefully in feb 2013 the nfl does NOT renew the contract with ea so nfl 2k can come back and i wont have to play the crummy ea sports games ever again

oh god, no way in hell.
look at nba live to nba 2k.
nba 2k is just 100% better in terms of replicating the actual sport.

nfl 2k kills even madden 10.
madden plays more like 'arcade football'
nfl 2k plays more like the sport we all know & love in terms of gameplay

apf 2k8 is better than any madden.
i strive for realism, thus im a SIM player.
you just like doing 'what works' thus youre creating a cheese/anything goes madden league

ea sports games are meant for the teenagers who dont know about real sports.
im more into the chess match of the game, thus im a 2k sports fan

If blu-ray.com had a feature where it took pictures of people as they read posts....my face would set records. I dont know, maybe I am the only person that feels this way, but I think that the 2K NFL games are terrible. Never in my life had I had scores of 77-3. I really enjoy the new system Madden has in place where it changes the level of the opposition based on how good you are. I am honestly very confused that people actually enjoyed NFL2K games, and that no Madden fans are here to stick up for it. But....to each their own....maybe I am still a "teenager" who doesnt "know about real sports". Haha.

playing the AI doesnt count.
anyone can exploit the ai at any level.
go online and lay madden, there are more 3 play wonders than people who actually run an offense.
people just use what works aka money plays in madden.
2k is more about strategy.

I agree most EA sport game are junk, but I would take NHL 10 over 2k10 anyday of the week.

I've played both the 2k and EA series the past 2 or 3 years, and to me, EA takes it.

Hockey is the one sport where EA has made strides and I have to admit that, if given a choice, I would choose EA's offering over SEGA's 2K Sports (only hockey, though).

I agree with you to a certain extent, but most Madden players are not sim. Adult or not.. I like to play sim since joining the 2 bluray leagues, but sometimes it just comes down to playing to win. I played the first NFL2K franchise, but I could not remember as I've been playing Madden for a long time.
