Default Lars Von Trier & Scorsese, huge news (rumor) to me!

http://ekstrabladet.dk/flash/filmogt...cle1299312.ece
Quote:
Trier to make film with Scorsese

Lars von Trier, together with Martin Scorsese will do a remake of 'Taxi Driver' from 1976 - Scorsese to remake Taxi Driver based on specific rules - called Obstructions - setup by Lars von Trier for Martin Scorsese

Two of the world's greatest film directors Lars von Trier and American Martin Scorsese throws themselves into a very interesting film, according to movie magazine Echo. They will produce a remake of Scorsese's movie 'Taxi Driver' from 1976, and the film must be made according to certain rules, or "Obstructions as Lars von Trier sets. And Robert De Niro must obviously play Travis again.

Trier has even traveled all the way to Berlin in his motor home to discuss the project with Martin Scorsese, who is here in Berlin with his new film 'Shutter Island'.

This exciting new film project is an extension of the movie 'The Five Obstructions' from 2003, when Trier asked his friend and colleague Jorgen Leth re-recorded his own short film, The Perfect Human - not just one but all five times. And each time with a new set of teasing Obstructions.

Zentropa boss Peter Aalbaek Jensen would not confirm details, but will later today send out a press release about a new collaboration, as Trier must conclude with a famous director. So Echo could possibly be right.
Now before you guys go on about hating the idea of "remaking" I have to tell you guys that this is only a rumor, but if they should do this (to good to be true for me anyways) it won't be a typical remake in the sense of what Hollywood does.

I have seen The Five Obstructions http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0354575/
And I love the whole concept, if you like "artsy-fartsy intellectual" stuff, you should definitely check out The Five Obstructions, from IMDb:
About a filmmaker not only revisiting, but also recreating (not in a conventional sense) one of his first films, The Perfect Human / Det perfekte menneske (1967).
If you shoud be interested in this, check out the original The Perfect Human first, then the documentary which is included in the dvd of course.
WTH? it's even on netflix! http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_Fiv...r&trkid=222336

Warning, for all you foreign language haters, it's in danish but has english subtitles of course.

Will do if I find some more, but I seriously doubt that it is Taxi Driver they're going to discuss.

But we'll see.

He asked about his mom, he said one "her way out" meaning she's sick and dying, what he means is life is short, make the most of it I guess.

Not really sure about this, the original is great and I don't really understand why they are doing this, I mean, it just doesn't make sense to me.....

If you've ever seen the movie the quote doesn't need explaining. But if you haven't than Jack is just a real hard ass, and even though the guy said his mom is dying, Jack basically is telling him to act like a man, because everybody is going to die so keep his emotions to himself with his "we all are, act accordingly"

Well it's a rumor that sounds to good to be true and why would Scorsese do this when he has a full plate (I imagine).
It has nothing to do with bettering the original, just to do an interesting new take.
Sort of a challenge in which Trier would come up with rules as to how to "remake" his film, based on what Trier feels what weakness Scorsese would have.

I've never seen anything Trier has done, so that's part of my problem. Like you said Scorsese is really busy so how is this supposed to work into that schedule?

Well the source comes from a reliable site, http://www.ekkofilm.dk/
It's on their front page, so I'm just going to patiently wait for more news.

Lars Von Trier is a eccentric, insane movie geek with a sharp mind.
Some or most of his movies you may very well hate, it's almost impossible to have a passive stance on his style.

Ugh . . . I'm not quite sure what to think of this. The original film is one of my favourites. Still, if Scorsese and Lars Von Trier are behind it, I'm sure it'll turn out brilliant.

Default Not a real update but

Quote:
This is easily my favourite film news story of the year so far. According to reports coming out of the Berlin Film Festival, Lars von Trier and Martin Scorsese are to team up for a remake of Taxi Driver and that Robert De Niro will star, presumably still in the role of Travis Bickle.

This sounds like Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant squared, or even to the power of von Trier’s own The Five Obstructions. I hope - hell, I pray - that Scorsese or De Niro don’t pull out and scupper this.

In my dreams, Scorsese would be allowed to direct, but only under extreme restrictions set in place by von Trier. This is essentially the premise of The Five Obstructions, a film in which von Trier pushed Jørgen Leth to remake his short The Perfect Human again and again, each time with more challenging conditions limiting how he could shoot or edit the work.

I think it’s abundantly clear that von Trier has a deliberate agenda here and most likely a most amusing end game in mind, and I’d doubt very much if any of this is fuelled by admiration for Taxi Driver. Indeed, it smacks of just the kind of baroque

Sharing a link to Earth Times (who quote print publication Ekko), Jeff Wells of Hollywood Elsewhere describes the remake idea as “repulsive” and suggests “it’s embarassing to even float it as a joke”. On the contrary, I find even the mildest whiff of possibility here hugely appetising.

I’m definitely not a fan of Taxi Driver, finding it more like a baby that won’t stop screaming for attention than even just a clumsy toddler that can’t stand up straight. All the same, I can see the greatness of De Niro’s performance no how matter far away the rest of the picture pushes me.

It always seemed to me that Neil Jordan’s Mona Lisa was a kind of Taxi Driver redux already. It was certainly infinitely preferable, with far less pleading and free of embarrassing novelty. The von Trier project would be likely to go in a completely different direction, however, and play more like a deconstruction of Scorsese’s original than a new drama we could expect to reveal itself fully without reference to the original.
For those of you who hasn't read this yet...

Default Rumor debunked.

http://www.ekkofilm.dk/?allowbreak=false&id=839
Quote:
Martin Scorsese's press secretary refuses to Ekko that the American director to make films with Lars von Trier.

It has for some time at Zentropa buzzing with rumors that Lars von Trier had to make a film with Martin Scorsese.

According to sources close to Trier was envisaged that Scorsese was re-recorded his 1976 classic, Taxi Driver of "Obstructions" by the Danish director.

The story spread like wildfire among all sorts of film fans as Zentropa boss Peter Aalbaek Jensen on Saturday against Echo suggested that a release was imminent.

"We report something when we have something to speak out. Earlier than tomorrow, "he said.

But the press release had to wait on him, and last night warned Martin Scorsese's press secretary rumor in the soil.

"It is completely false. It has nothing on him. Absolutely nothing, "states Michelle Benson taciturn mail response to the echo.

Peter Aalbaek Jensen also has several media tried to put a lid on the story. He confirms that Trier and Scorsese have met in the Berlin festival. What they talked about is so far a secret.
as expected, it is debunked, but I wonder what Von Trier and Scorsese have talked about

(the translation is from google, did not have the time to fix grammar)

Not a fan of Lars so I'm not hopeful. We will see though. I'm one of the few who hated Antichrist.

You're actually one of the many who hated Antichrist, understandably.
I don't know if you read it, but the Taxi Driver "reimagining" is not happening, it made me a bit sad to be honest.
