Default Manhunter versus Red Dragon

Don't get me wrong, Manhunter is also an excellent movie but I feel Red Dragon has the better cast and that's what puts it over the top. Some of the performances in Manhunter just fall flat but soar in Red Dragon.

Honestly, Manhunter is a movie that has gotten a better reputation than it deserves over the years. If Silence Of The Lambs did not become the phenomenon it became, Manhunter would have been forgotten about years ago. Anyone check out the Red Dragon Blu-ray available?

I have to agree. Manhunter was alright, but Anthony Hopkins helped push Red Dragon up a notch in my book.

Haven't seen Manhunter, but Red Dragon is really bad in my opinion.

I was about to make an almost identical post, but you beat me to it

Even Michael Mann at half-speed is better then Ratner's hackery.

Well I am almost the exact opposite. Haven't seen 'Red Dragon', but I have seen 'Manhunter' and absolutely love it. I am dying for a BD release of it.

I highly recommend Manhunter.

Just noticed a possible error at the end of the movie after Graham guns down Dolarhyde. Right as Graham walks off-screen, Dolarhyde actually gulps.

I've been meaning to see that one, it's supposed to be realistic?

Well, I could not recommend Red Dragon to you
You like good movies

Manhunter is out on blu as part of the Hannibal Lector Collection, but I'd have a hard time recommending it. While the PQ/AQ is solid for a film of this vintage (no dnr thankfully), the disc is bare bones, and the PQ of Hannibal is appalling (bare bones as well).

......and Manhunter is better than Red Dragon imho (though I didn't hate Red Dragon).

Well...compared to the only other ones that I have seen(SotL and Hannibal) I would have to say so.

When it showed up on HBO years ago I watched it for the first time and thought that it was just OK, but during its repeated showings I was drawn to it and could not turn the channel to something else.

Now it does have a very 80's look and feel to it so it's probably not for everyone. But give it a shot and when it is shown again see if it does not draw you in for repeated viewings.

Yea, I noticed that there was a two movie set but I am not a huge fan of SotL. Though my friend's wife loves it, so maybe I could just give it to her and that would force them to finally buy a BD player.

I'm not a fan of Manhunter. I haven't seen it in awhile, but what I remember of it was, it seemed like an extended Miami Vice episode. Very made for TV qualitiy to it.

On the other hand, I saw Red Dragon in the theater and don't remember a thing about it.

Ralph Fiennes makes Red Dragon a better movie then Manhunter. He makes Dolarhyde's character seem so twisted. Brett Ratner actually did a good job, compared to the other garbage he has filmed...

Brett Ratner ruined the Hanniabl series with RED DRAGON. The guy doesn't know how to dierct a film and it's not the first frnachise he's ruined. Look what he did with the 3rd X MEN film. As far as MANHUNTER, a far superior film by a guy who knows how to make movies. I'll take MANHUNTER any day of the week.

Agreed. I checked out Manhunter from the UH campus library a year ago and I couldn't watch it. I think Brian Cox is a great actor and all, but Anthony Hopkins is Hannibal Lector.

Did you see Hannibal Rising? That was worse. Red Dragon was the last good film that Brett Ratner has made.
