Talking Silent Hill 6

http://www.officialnintendomagazine....e.php?id=14814

Quote:
ONM: What's next For Climax? Would you like to make another Silent Hill game?

Mark Simmons: Absolutely. We've always loved working on the series. Since Origins we've spent a lot of time with the series. For us we feel we've put our stamp on the series with Shattered Memories so we'd love the opportunity to do another one. So everybody go and buy it!

Sam Barlow: I think this is the first Silent Hill since one or two where people are saying it has its own identity and people are responding to it really well so it would be great to take that further.
I hope the Wii/PS2/PSP versions sold well so we can get another game. I liked Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Still not as good as Silent Hill 2, in my opinion, though.

ehhhhh. i really wish they would just kill this series off. i loved silent hill 2, it's easily the perfect example of what survival horror should be, just no ones gotten it right after that. even team silent screwed it up with silent hill 4, and now they've kept passing it around like a drunk girl at a frat house and no one seems to know what to do with it. double helix totally screwed the pooch with homecoming and missed the point of the series so much they were in another solar system. i havn't given shattered memories a try yet, but based on previous experiences after the perfection that was silent hill 2 i remain pesamistic.

I didn't have high expectations with Shattered Memories, but the whole psychological parts where the game changes based on what you do was pretty interesting. At the end, if you play it like how you are in real life, you'll be told on a computer monitor during the end credits; "Individual is not afraid to share feelings, etc."

I'd be up for another trip to Silent Hill or for more spooky games in general. Last December I played through Origins and Homecoming. Also played Fatal Frames 2-3 that month.

It's official, SILENT HILL 6!!!

Source

Quote:
At Konami's press event last night in San Francisco, the company closed the show with a brief glimpse at the next Silent Hill game. The short trailer was light on specifics: a blonde man sits on the edge of a bed holding his head in his hands. The world around him morphs into a dark, deserted road in front of a dilapidated gate. The man hears a sound, turns, sees nothing, then gets attacked by something from the darkness when he turns back.

Will it be another retelling a la the divisive Shattered Memories? An entirely new entry in the series? At this point we don't even have an official title, so it's all conjecture.

However, we do know the game is being developed by Vatra Games, the same company behind the upcoming Rush 'N Attack. While the trailer itself was devoid of any concrete details beyond "more to come at E3," the developer's website details the company's focus on "high-end action titles for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC," so it's safe to assume that the next Silent Hill will probably not be for Wii or one of the handheld platforms. And, well, there definitely won't be any music from long time series composer, Akira Yamaoka, but you already knew that.

The recent announcement of Silent Hill 6 was notably sparse on details, but today we might be getting the first real look at the future of the franchise. Brace yourselves, Silent Hill fans, this might not be pleasant. GameRep reports that Vatra Games is working on a first-person shooter for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC to release in Q1 of 2011. Since Vatra is the developer behind the new Silent Hill, it would make sense for the next title in the series to be that FPS.
Now before you hyperventilate, keep a few things in mind. The report could be in error, or it could be mistakenly referring to the new Rush 'n Attack -- which is not an FPS. Or, Vatra Games could simply be working on two titles simultaneously. It would be unusual for a small developer, but it is a possibility. Otherwise, we just have to hope for the best if the series takes a turn into FPS territory.
Um, please don't let it be FPS and please try to get Akira Yamaoka back for the music. It won't be the same without his haunting score.

These news (the absence of Akira Yamaoka, along with the proposed FPS offering) don't bode well for the franchise. While I do think that the franchise needs a reboot (or reinvigorated somehow), what KONAMI does not need is its own House of the Dead or something with a passing resemblance to Resident Evil 5.

I hope KONAMI will alleviate my concerns when E3 rolls around.

I don't care that Akira Yamaoka left Konami, but for the love of God, Konami better pay him whatever he wants so he can do the soundtrack. His music is what makes the games fun. I have the soundtracks off of iTunes and Gamestop for the Shattered Memories soundtrack and they are breathtaking.

After Silent Hill: Homecoming, and the rumor of the next one might be a FPS?, I don't know if I should be cheering or just say "meh"?

Well I thought Homecoming had it's moments, and also had some nice visual effects. It was far from the best, but not the worst in the series. I'll wait for the reviews and then decide if I'll play the game. If they come up with a descent storyline then they just might have something there to work with.

Music By Daniel Licht.

So, this is a big disappointment to me. No Akira Yamaoka means no heart and soul to it like the previous games.
