Can we demand a Remastered Dhoom 2?

The first time I saw the much awaited Dhoom 2 BD, I was very dissapointed. Contrast and highlight bloom, color bleeding, edge enhancement and so many other issues.

I remember seeing a very similar issue with one Hollywood release - Gangs of New York. The release received criticism all around and later Disney relased a new remastered version - I watched few clips and comparison of shots and was greatly impressed by the new transfer.

The previously released, rightfully reviled Blu-ray edition of Gangs of New York was greeted with fierce criticism when it arrived in 2008. The reason? It featured one of the most disappointing high definition presentations of the year; a shoddy transfer hobbled by rampant edge enhancement, color blooming, debilitating DNR, compression artifacts, vertical striping, smearing, and black crush. Suffice to say, it was an absolute mess. Well, dear readers, welcome to 2010. Disney has quietly released a newly remastered version of Gangs of New York into the wild; one blessed with a gorgeous 1080p/AVC-encoded stunner that finally gives the film its due. Michael Ballhaus's hearthy interiors, shadowy alleyways, and bright battlefields are gorgeous, boasting sumptuous autumnal hues and rich, exceedingly natural blacks. Moreover, a veneer of grain lends his visual tour de force the fittingly filmic appearance it sorely lacks in Disney's previous Blu-ray release. Contrast is strong and stable, delineation is as revealing as it should be from shot to shot, and the image is clean and attractive. You won't find any distracting artifacts, bursts of noise, mysterious lines, print blemishes, or waxy faces. Detail is immaculate as well, delivering sharp edges, refined textures, and remarkable clarity. A few soft shots dot the proceedings (a closeup of DiCaprio in an opium house represents the worst of it), but every instance can be traced back to the original photography, not the studio's technical efforts.

If I have any complaint, it's that a somewhat negligible bit of ringing still appears when actors are framed by Scorsese's white skies. It's rare, mind you, and a far cry from the maddening halos that plagued its previous Blu-ray release, but eagle-eyed videophiles with large screens will notice it nonetheless. That being said, I couldn't be more pleased with Disney's remastered presentation. Bold and beautiful, it represents a striking and sincere apology from a studio that's made a habit of righting old wrongs. Disney has done right by their fans and their film, and that shouldn't be taken lightly.

Even Hollywood studios make mistakes and in few occassions they have accepted and released a new version (Fifth Element, Terminator 2, Gladiator etc) giving the films its due in terms of PQ and AQ.

My point is can we demand Yashraj (using this forum) to do a remastered edition of Dhoom 2? At first it may look like a protest to deaf ears but to make this format successful ,our bollywood industry should have the courage to accept the mistakes done by them and provide the customers the expected quality.

Can we have a Dhoom 2 remastered edition? One of the most stylish movies made in India and unfortunately one of the most below average transfers.

Am I asking too much?

I would like other members to join this thread and post their opinion. Though unlikely, but our feedback may reach Yashraj through this forum and hopefully they would do something about it.

There are other titles much more in need of remastering. Such as "Faana" and "Veer Zaara" with completely messed up black levels and contrast.

Agree and the same goes with many other discs like Silsila, Partner, Bhool Bhulaiya. Unfortunately the ratio of problematic discs to released discs for bollywood is much higher than that of hollywood.

I don't know if we can urge the studios to look into remastering discs on some kind priority.

I agree with Zoran Bhai .. also sad part is that for people who can't tell the difference and don't know what high def is to them this is mind blowing .. hence no remaster even though I wish it myself.

I agree with the last two posters. Somewhat. There are more important things on the list for these companies.

But I think that considering this is the first we are seeing of their Blu-Ray work... isn't it STILL really good compared to their DVDs? All these years later and YRF amongst all the other companies still don't know how to properly make DVDs. Some releases don't even have a logo that identify the disc as DVD, which is REAL laziness if you ask me. So I think that, on the contrary, they did an OK job for their first time around.

The chances of them redoing these releases... maybe on an anniversary or something way down the line. That could take a decade though.

blurays if you compare to their vhs based dvds, lol..da! they are way better but my point is, they are going to go down from here, never up.

You are so right bhai .. look at DVDs, very good to excellent quality initially by DEI, Eros and Super Digital and then they went downhill F-A-S-T! Blu Ray will be no exception, with the cheaper media coming out, these companies will find ways of releasing BRs the cheapest way possible to maximize profits at the expense of consumers.

If I could beg for any current BRD to be remastered, It will be GUPT with 5.1 DTS HD MA in a heartbeat. The best who-done-it thriller to the core of 1990s decade!
