Default American Reunion

http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=27061

Quote:
Despite the fact that the American Pie franchise has cooled into a series of increasingly stodgy DVD releases filled with unknown cast members and small pay cheques for Eugene Levy, Universal thinks it might be worth reheating the series for a new cinema release.

The LA Times reports that the studio is now developing a version – creatively working titled American Pie 4 – that might see the return of some of the original cast. Some of them could certainly use the career boost, since few have actually broken out much since the original three movies and most seemed headed straight for the Where Are They Now? file of minor supporting roles and their own straight-to-disc dungeons.

While Alyson Hannigan is enjoying success with TV’s How I Met Your Mother and Seann William Scott is still picking up bigger film roles (he’s in Cop Out in the coming months), the likes of Jason Biggs, Chris Klein and Shannon Elizabeth haven’t exactly seen their careers skyrocket.

While Universal has declined to comment on the idea, word that Harold And Kumar writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are talking to the studio about finding a new flavour for the film – and working in the idea that the original characters are now older – indicates that it’s pushing ahead, however slowly. Can it recapture the old magic? Or will it just go mouldy?
Let's just wait and see how this fares. Considering they've done four DVD sequels. I think it's deader than a dead horse.

Not sure that I would watch this even with Sean William Scott.

I wouldn't say dead. Who actually counts the DTV sequels as sequels anyway? So far to me, they don't exist. So 4 could be good. Stifler was my favorite character anyway. And I agree ALOT of those actors could do with career revivals.

It's not that the 3rd is a bad film. It's certainly a good one and very enjoyable but it doesn't live up to its predecessors.

I'm curious on what they would do with 4? I'm pretty sure the two main characters would have kids by now?

To be honest, I think its a big mistake to pull off a 4th one. But hey as long as its good then I wouldn't mind it.

I loved the original 3 when I was in middle school and high school, but frankly, in my 20's these films just haven't held up for me. I have considered this franchise deader than Michael Jackson for a long time and really don't see a purpose to it.

Bring it on! There's nothing wrong with more American Pie comedy. The box office has been lacking comedies like American Pie.

The first 2 are classics, i can live without the 3rd but i do think a 4th one can be pulled off if done right.. meaning Stifler doesnt act like a toolbag that everyone hates for some reason and oz and his gf come back, and maybe throw in the sherminator

American Pie 4, it's really too late to re-capture the magic of this franchise but with enough of the original cast it may be tolerable.

Right on, WyldeMan45.

Animal House, Cheech & Chong Up In Smoke, Friday, Next Friday, Porky's, Porky's II: The Next Day and Revenge Of The Nerds (all of which are far superior the three real American Pie movies to begin with) have aged far better than the three real American Pie movies.

There should be another Friday movie long before there should be another American Pie movie.

I'd definitely give it a watch. With the right creative team, it could be decent enough. There's some talented performers in that extended cast. And besides, I actually kind of liked the first DTV spin-off, Band Camp. Yeah, I said it.

Only if Chris Tucker returns. The 2 sequels without him left me cold.

With the core cast, it COULD in theory be a funny movie... could.

Jim is totally an office-worker now, Stifler still the gym-coach, Jim's Dad has done whatever with those direct-to-DVD sequels. They could have some embarassing workplace scenarios with emails or texting/sexting while at work. Hmm... sounds more like a 10-minute skit on SNL.

Actually, I am a huge fan of Friday After Next, The Players Club, and Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise and The Wash (all four of which I almost love, but not quite).

Admittedly, the four movies in the first paragraph of this reply message (Friday After Next, The Players Club, Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds In Paradise and The Wash) are not in the same league as Animal House, Cheech and Chong Up In Smoke, Friday, Next Friday (nearly as good as Friday, IMO), Porky's, Porky's II: The Next Day (nearly as good as Porky's) and Revenge Of The Nerds. I love (but by no means adore all seven of these movies).

However, the three movies in the third paragraph of this reply message are much closer to seven movies mentioned in my last reply message to this topic (I posted my last reply message to this topic today, Thursday, 02-18-2010 at 7:33AM Eastern Standard Time) than they are to American Pie (which I like but far from love), American Pie 2 (which I also like but far from love; American Pie was, of course better than American Pie 2) and especially American Wedding (which initially, I liked more than American Pie 2 just as much as I liked it less than American Pie). Unfortunately, American Wedding has aged very poorly for a movie that is about 6½ years old.

I have never seen the following movies: Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie, Cheech and Chong’s Nice Dreams, Cheech and Chong’s Things are Tough All Over and Porky’s Revenge. However, given how poorly American Wedding has aged in about 6½ years (very much so, unfortunately ), I cannot imagine that the other seven movies mentioned in the paragraph of this reply message (Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie, Cheech and Chong’s Nice Dreams, Cheech and Chong’s Things are Tough All Over and Porky’s Revenge) are any worse or more than just a little worse than American Wedding.

Therefore, I am super interested in seeing Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie, Cheech and Chong’s Nice Dreams, Cheech and Chong’s Things are Tough All Over and Porky’s Revenge (since I love Cheech & Chong’s Up In Smoke, Porky’s and Porky’s II: The Next Day).

I am also super interested in seeing Revenge Of The Nerds III: The Next Generation and Revenge Of The Nerds IV: Nerds In Love (since I love Revenge Of the Nerds and almost love Revenge Of The Nerds II: Nerds In Paradise).

Since I love Friday and Next Friday and almost love Friday After Next, The Players Club and The Wash, I would much rather have another Friday, Players Club or Wash (all of which I am super interested in seeing) than another “real” (real meaning none of those bogus direct to video American Pie movies that are merely spin offs of the first three American Pie movie just to cash in on the American Pie name-IMO, purely in the name of greed) American Pie movie (which I am not all that interested in).

FWIW, I am not remotely interested in any more Scream and Last Summer movies (ditto more Valentine movies times a ton ). I almost love Scream, Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer. I merely liked Scream 3 (I did not care for I Still Know What You Did Last Summer).

I may or may not bother renting I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer on DVD or Blu Ray Disc-if IAKWYDLS ever comes out on Blu Ray Disc, that is (which it probably will not-and it probably should not, anyway).

Too long for an American Pie thread. There should've been a full-frontal nudity pic in the middle of that.
