Default When will all stations switch to HD?

When will HD Broadcast completely replace standard one the same way Color Broadcast completely replaced black and white one?

Why do most stations still broadcast in 1080i instead of 1080p?

I think I read its just not viable, 1080p takes up to much space compared to 1080i.

I would assume it will be a few years yet. When a vast majority of the population has HDTVs in their home, then more networks will start showing more things in HD. Channels like MTV/VH1 and the like have an HD channel on every tv provider in the country, but I count less than 15% of what I can see on there is HD. 1080p also isn't viable for them as it will take up a great deal of space that they can use to put more programming out. I say by 2013 all programming will be HD and standard def will be gone. At least I hope so.

They'd have lots of space if they killed off all those crappy SD channels.

Eventually.

Not soon enough though.

i think you're underestimating the low-tech demographic. Heck, do you know how hard it was just to get everyone digital? That was only last year...

I was wondering about this to. Comedy Central, G4, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon network need to be in HD. especially G4 I mean they call themselves a high tech channel and they review tech stuff why don't they just switch to HD?

I get Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network in HD on DirecTV.

G4 is available in HD on Comcast and AT&T U-Verse.

G4, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon present programming properly on their HD channels.

- Attack of the Show is 4x3 proper while X-Play just switched to 16x9. New programming is presented in true 16x9 along with movies.

- New programming on Comedy Central and most movies are 16x9. Older programming like The Chappelle Show are 4x3 proper.

- Nickelodean is the same way with proper AR presentations.

- Cartoon Network follows the rest of the Turner cable family (TNT and TBS) with 4x3 stretched to fill 16x9. They have a few shows presented i 16x9 proper but only for the first runs. Secondary runs are the 4x3 versions stretched to 16x9. Adult Swim also recently began airing their HD programming in true 16x9. The third season of The Venture Brothers was presented in 4x3 stretched but it had the black letterbox bars from the SD channel feed. So it looked real bad.

It bugs me to see some stations in SD too. I hope they make everything HD by next year. Everyone who doesn't have an HDTV probably has a digital converter by now so they need to get on it.

this, there are so many people that dont want to switch or just dont care, and just like the digital switch, its gonna be a long time, expecially since it would cost the government a lot more to provide vouchers for HDTVs than it did for vouchers for the digital boxes
