Default What's your opinion on Enemy At the Gates

I remember as a kid catching this on tnt late one night. I saw that Jude Law and Ed Harris were in it so I was interested. Turns out I enjoyed it very suspenseful, tragic and I felt the story of the friendship almost ruined was strong. And score was good too.

Though now I look at the reviews, it's like 56 on RT, many people didn't like it for some reason. I'm curious, I can't find anything wrong witht he movie, sure it's 2 hours but you're telling me that's too long? That's a normal length. I think Gangs of New York hit boring points. I felt EATG was pretty straightforward and the acting was good (introduced me to Ralph Fiennes' brother and showed me that Rachel Weisz has acting ability in her)

What's your thought? Why do you guys hate this movie? Was I probably a young child that was easily impressed by the action? Isn't it a little too dramatic for a kid?

Personally, I really enjoy this movie and I don't know why it's praised a tad more. It's not your usual war movie and that may be it. And yeah, the score is pretty epic. The opening scene could rival Saving Private Ryan's opening.

Yeah it's not your usual war movie and it's not patriotic to the Americans but I think it does a good job of giving Russia some pride in their role in the war.

And this has gotten me intrigued, should I go see Seven Years of Tibet if I liked this lol?

i was thinking about renting this, but didn't know Rachel Weisz was in it.

Now it's at the top of my Netflix queue.

Seven Years in Tibet really isn't like this movie so I'm not sure. It's not really a war film.

Same director though. People say this is boring, and then Seven Years is boring, it can't be that bad. The only reason I'm considering it is that Brad Pitt is one of my favorite actors.

If you think so, then see it. It's different, but I thought it was enjoyable, but found it dragged a tad.

If the end payoff is good and if the performances are good and if the score is good (most importantly score, makes the boring parts less tedious) I can stand it.

I thought it was fine, so you'd probably enjoy it.

it's not Brad Pitt's best though - I still think "Inglorious" takes that cake or "Meet Joe Black" or "Seven"

I wouldn't say Inglourious is his best. I prefer Se7en over Inglourious.

Though have you seen Assassination of Jesse James? That might be one of his finest performances. I think if we were to do best Pitt movies I'd rank, 1.Fight Club, 2. Se7en 3. Benjamin Button 4. Jesse James 5. Snatch

Totally forgot "Fight Club"...that's probably his best. I just like "Inglorious" b/c of how he kept a straight face with that accent and attitude. You could tell he was having fun.

As well as Snatch. He's not that bad with accents, I just don't know why his accent in Seven Years in Tibet, Troy, and Devil's Own sound weird. Then he sounds totally natural in Jesse James, Benjamin Button, Inglourious, and Snatch. Makes no sense.

It's sad that Sarsargard a mediocre actor can pull off a British accent while Pitt cannot?

I liked this movie, and its attempt to show us WWII from another perspective.

Enemy is a favorite of mine. I have seen it many times, and am always entertained. Ed Harris as a german sniper is just fun. For those calling Seven Years in Tibet Brad's best work...............um that was the worst austrian accent of all time! I think it might have actually been voted so in numerous polls, lol. Legends or River Runs where much better, but Jesse James is his best role by far.

Enemy at the gates is a great movie. Happy to own it on Blu-Ray though I wish it had better features.

56 is a ridiculously low score. Perhaps people were expecting a non stop action movie from Snipers??

If I do recall when it came out it wasn't advertised hardly at all. Probably did better overseas than domestically too., as it's more a European movie.

I have the DVD version here. My wife said she wanted to see it.

However,... I saw the trailer and it looked boring to me.

I have mentioned it a few times as an option when we try to find something to watch and she seems to have forgotten why she wanted it,... so It's gone unwatched for now.

Guess that doesn't really count as an opinion.

I saw Enemy at the Gates in the theater and thought it was a good movie. For some reason, though, war movies don't have a high replay factor for me so I've never been interested in buying it.
