I've seen just about everything except a 1080p projector. Anyone watched a blu-ray on a 1080p projector?

While I have seen great pictures on Plasma, LCD and LED (plasma usually being the best). For impact and size, it is pretty hard to beat a properly setup projector. I guess it depends on size of the room, how far you would like to sit from the screen, 1.85 or 2.35. Those are all good places to start.

I voted plasma. I have both plasma and lcd tv. there's really little difference between the latest LCD and Plasmas. It all boils down to who can reproduce deep black and shadow detail, and we all know here that plasma is holding the upper hand. Also, i voted plasma because it suits my needs. i'm a fussy movie watcher, i turn all the lights out when watching, i like inviting freinds a family over and some of them will be sitting off axis to the screen.

wish I could find a Kuro

I too voted for Plasma, I've owned DLP, LCD, and Plasma.

Plasma rocks!

I love my plasma, but the newer LEDs are pretty impressive,
one thing that we didn't like about the LED is that it is too real,
you seem to lose that theatrical feel, its like watching a soap on a window,
that's how I feel about it though...

But with the LEDs price, I'd get a bigger plasma with much to save still...

cheers everyone...

Projector!!

After that I'd have to go LCD (given rear projection isn't a choice) in my current setup. Too much ambient light for Plasma, that and image retention annoyed me too much on my last plasma.

Hard to beat the return for your investment with a 1080p projector. They are less than a Kuro and what you get back is amazing. The sheer size, PQ and wow factor are more impressive than any kind of TV. Of course, there are other factors with a projector (room size, ambient light, wall colors), but you can work with those issues. I say projector all the way!

1. Kuro Plasma (if you can find one)
2. Samsung 8500 LED LCD

that's all I can safely recommend at this point.

Projector is my choice . When you go Big you look at it totally different . It seems as though you are at the movie Theater without all the other people there .

Agreed. I wonder how many people have voted or will vote without having seen a 1080p front projector properly setup.

Yep and I prefer my entry level 1080p projector to a kuro. Size matters.

I voted projector.

I bought my parents a 50 inch Panny plasma for Christmas, and it has an incredible picture.

However, even though the picture might be better, it doesn't come close to the awesomeness of my 1080p projector shooting onto a 140 inch screen.

However, if I could afford that 103 inch Panny; I'd be all over that action.

I voted projector. I have had all of the above display technologies. I can not imagine going back to a regular sized TV for movies any more. Nothing beats front projection IMHO. Not even the mighty Elite KURO.

Edit: I have not had a LED LCD but I would put it on the same line as my Father-in-Laws Elite. Or just below it.

Here we go again. LED LED LED. It seems we can't go very long on this forum before LED comes up again. Your poll should read "LCD standard" or "LCD with LED backlight" LED is not a display technology.

I have seen a Panasonic AE4000...image is really good...but to me I much preferred my Pioneer 101FD even though the screen is much smaller. I just sit a bit closer to the screen and pretend it is a 100 inches...

Plasma.
But I do plan to make the jump to a projector some time in the near future.

Projector.
For me the size really adds another dimension to the movies (it really feals like you're flying or sailing when the whole wall moves) and with 1080p the picture quality is still very detailed. I see things that I never saw on a smaller screen before such as people or objects in the background that were too small to make out before.
