Default Question About Wisdom Teeth?

I went to the dentist about six months ago, and they said that they'd be up soon. Now, this past week, while I've been filming, the back of my bottom jaw has been freakin' killing me. Is it supposed to feel like this?

I had mine pulled out before they came in (because they were going to come in at an angle and throw the alignment of my teeth off).

But I imagine they will hurt a bit when coming through. Just imagine it... at some point your new teeth are going to pierce through your gums. That's going to hurt.

There may be some pressure put on your other teeth, as these new teeth squeeze their way in. That's going to hurt too.

If your dentist knows about them, then I'm sure he saw that they'd be growing in fine, so I wouldn't worry about it. Take some pain reliever if needed.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled several years ago when I was still under my parents insurance. I never felt any pain at all because my wisdom teeth were still inside my gums. That required surgery.

Anyway it's best to take all 4 out at the same time. You don't want to come back.

I had mine taken out a few years back. They got to be really painful while chewing, so I decided to bite the bullet and get them removed, although I have a particular fear of doctor's/dentist's offices and especially having procedures done.

Let me tell you this, I did not feel one ounce of pain from the surgery, and throughout the entire recovery process. Not even a slight tingly pain, it was the weirdest thing. I got a prescription for painkillers and never even had to take one.

I'm sure all experiences are different, depending on how your teeth are sitting in your gums, but it's not all horror stories like I had heard.

Got mine removed years ago when I was still in high school. Had some problems with them (dry sockets) which were pretty painful, but that's about all I recall.

They are going in & out of the gums.If they bother you have them pulled. ALL 4 at once is recommended. My jaw hurt like a ***** for 3 days after they were pulled. If not going to get them pulled or have to wait try GOOD TEQUILA! Works every time!

My dentist is a sadist I think. Or he wants to really milk the insurance. He's been pulling them slowly one at a time. The final one though needs a referral because it's impacted.

My regular dentist yanked out the top two when I was in my mid-20's, but the lower two are impacted so deep that not even oral surgeons want to mess with them. They are almost touching my jaw bone. Every now & then I get a swollen gum in the lower backs and have to take antibiotics. Damn these wisdom teeth!

But yeah, they can ache like crazy.

The worst part is having a syringe to get all the food out of the holes.

When they pulled one last weekend the dentist found a small cyst forming behind it and there was puss too.

He said it was good we took it out. There were fragments of the cyst on the tooth.

I had all 4 of mine cut out because they all came in completely sideways.
I woke up during the surgery, but didnt feel any pain, they knocked me back out once they realized I was starting to freak.
I had a reaction the the anesthesia so that made me really ill and such...
BUT I slept off and on for a week, and when I was fully conscious again all i had were chipmunk cheeks and bruises.

Haha. I got mine removed when I was in 6th or 7th grade. They weren't poking through yet, so my gums had to be cut open.

I remember after they shot me up with some anesthesia, I started hallucinating, and the dentist's office slowly turned into a giant game of Galaga.

I wasn't allowed to eat food for a couple days (only Jello).

My gums were so swollen in the back that I couldn't even make my upper and lower teeth touch, when closing my jaw.

Sounds like you had it bad! I think the only problem with me after the surgery was trying to snap out of the anesthesia. I was high or something like that, and I kept holding on to my dad.

Oh the doc said to drink Ginger Ale to ease... something
Well I drank some of it and I started to throw up. I'll never drink Ginger Ale ever again because of that.

I only had to take 1 pain killer, and my gums were never swollen.

BTW, I have my wisdom teeth still in a zip lock bag. I can see that the teeth are decaying pretty bad.

The anesthesia made me sick as well. Which sucked because I was throwing up while I had bleeding holes in my mouth, which can't be too sterile. I also had the swollen cheeks and bruises. It looked like they used a hammer and chistle on my face to get them out.

Sounds like you may need to get them pulled. Whatever you do, insist on sedation. Most dentists will do it this way, but some still don't.

I had mine pulled when I was awake. They gave me a Valium or something which did absolutely nothing. My teeth wouldn't come out, so he had to saw them in half. He had to add more novacaine twice during the procedure because I was feeling pain from the saw. Then I got dry sockets and it hurt to apply pressure to my teeth for a long time after. It was the most miserable experience of my life. So insist on going under!

All 4 removed. Three were done at the same time, while I was awake. Did not hurt at all. Had a dry socket, but was fixed the next day.

My last one came out a year or two later. It had to be cut in half because the roots were going at an angle. If they took it out whole, it would have broken the roots leaving them in the gum. Not good.

Again, I was awake, no pain.
