Default O Lucky Man!

Lindsay Anderson's epic starring Malcolm McDowell was given a great double DVD edition in 2007, splitting the huge film in two to preserve image quality and featuring a good commentary track and two excellent extras. A truly great film, an ideal blu release would be a box containing the other Mick Travis films If and Britannia Hospital but I'd be happy to see this key British film on blu

At least it wouldn't have to be split across two discs on Blu. I doubt that we'll see a Blu-ray release for quite some time though - I can't imagine it's anyway near the top of Warner's priority list of titles. And unfortunately, Warner have a policy of not licensing their films to third parties, so that counts out possibilities such as Criterion.

Ugh, over three years later and still no Blu-ray release of O Lucky Man. This is actually my absolute top desire on Blu-ray, bar none. But, then, it would be, since it's my favorite film of all time. I know If... received greater critical and public acclaim, but for the star power alone you'd think O Lucky Man would find its way to blu. And, IMO, this film is on a pedestal with the best of Kubrick and vastly superior to anything Spielberg or Lucas ever created.

Son of a gun... Searching for any evidence of hope for a Blu-ray version of O Lucky Man (for the umpteenth time), I discovered... iTunes has O Lucky Man available for purchase in HD. It's downloading now, in 1080p! Calloo, callay!!!

Be sure to set your iTunes preferences to HD (vs SD) and 1080p (vs 720p) before initiating a movie purchase.

2017 and I'm still holding out for it. I love the film and I'd absolutely love to add it to my blu ray collection.

I find myself googling for it or some kind of Indicator that it is in the works at least once a month.

So far, nothing as far as I can find.

The DVD is one of the many issued by Warner that suffers from laser rot. From that alone, it should be a priority to issue it on BD because those of us who own the bloody thing can no longer watch it (I have to skip a couple of chapters on disc 2).

They should give to Criterion, who've already released If....

Aye or Masters of Cinema, or Indicator (who released britannia hospital) hence the pun in my previous post.

Yup, a film like no other. I'd love a Blu-ray, but not from Criterion (it would be locked to region A & they probably wouldn't release it in the UK) Hopefully it's coming from Warner Archive next year.

Yes, I'd prefer for everybody's sake for it to be released by WAC, even though I live in a region A country. Just gimme the whole three hours on one disc without a fake intermission and restore the 70's Warner logos. Trailer and featurette in HD will do as extras. I can live without the commentary. O Lucky Malcolm! is on the ACO BD so no need to include it as filler.

I wonder about the aspect ratio. It premiered in the US before the UK, being a Warner film but it is indeed a British filma and back in '73, it'd have been shown at 1.75:1 in the UK (slightly more vertical image than on the dvd). Too much to ask?

My DVD of O Lucky Man died several years ago - one of the numerous Warners DVD pressed between 2006 to 2009 to do so.

In late 2018 I saw it on the big screen and it has clearly been restored and very beautifully at that. There are really no excuses why this hasn't been released on Blu Ray by now - the restoration has been completed.

Also, happened to see Ken Russell's Savage Messiah at the same festival and whilst not restored would look very nice on Blu Ray.
