United Kingdom How long do your HMV orders take to arrive?

If I've pre-ordered something from HMV (online) they are often sent out on the Tuesday before the release date but I still don't get them until the Saturday - thats 4 days! If I use Play they won't send them out until at least the Thursday before release but I still usually get them by the Saturday, making it only 2 days. Why do HMV orders take longer? They are all based in the Channel Islands so I don't get it

I usually get my HMV pre-orders on the Saturday, but I found that Play stopped sending pre-orders out until 5 pm on the Friday before release, and I often wouldn't get them until the Tuesday or Wednesday after release.

Simple solution, Play lost all my orders and HMV gained them.

Actually mean't to say I normally get my pre-orders on the Friday, mental block there, and I typed Saturday.

Just got the latest Doctor Who DVD box set from HMV on Friday, which doesn't come out until tomorrow.

Always a benefit getting them at the weekend, because you have more time to spend watching them and working through any features you're interested in.

You're not wrong there - that's why I very rarely use Amazon for pre-orders.

To use Amazon, it has to be something I'm okay with waiting for, and that I get a substantial saving on, for example, Star Trek: The Original Series Season 3 is about £7 cheaper than at HMV.

Amazon are faster most of the time so if I need a BD that's already out then I'll usually use them. However you never (well I don't anyway) get pre-orders early, like on a friday/saturday before it's monday release. For this reason alone I go with HMV or Play for pre-orders.

Obviously different regions are served differently by different companies. I find that unless you're using Amazon Prime or paying for postage, Amazon are one of the slowest companies for pre-orders, and can be very slow for items in stock.

I was meaning different regions in the UK. You wouldn't have thought there would be that much difference, but there you go.

Thehut.com, play and HMV I prefer for pre orders since I get them early.

Amazon I would use if the price is right but I try to make sure my pre orders go to their ingofish partner rather then amazon since their partner ships early where as with amazon I am waiting after the release date.

Thumbs up

HMV was always superfast with me (and I lived in Central Scotland although I've now relocated to the US). Play was good too...it was only ever once in a blue moon that there was a delay. Normally I'd get my purchase on the friday/saturday before the street date.

They've been very good for me, I got both 'Inglourious Basterds' and 'The Hangover' on the friday before their release.

Also got 'Heat' on the friday before it's release.
They usually come 2 days after dispatch for me

Hope this helps
Sam

HMV are normally good for me too, but Final Fantasy 13 just arrived today when they had sent it last Thursday. I got Zombieland pre-orderd so will see if it takes as long.

I've only used HMV online once and that was to pre-order Heavy Rain and I got that a day before release. I usually pre-order stuff from Amazon but they never get delivered before or on the release date. I'm still waiting for my Toy Story 1/2 blus :/ I pre-ordered Up from Amazon and I didn't get it until the Thursday after release. Amazon are really rubbish when it come to pre-orders but are fast when something is already out I think I'm gonna move to HMV for pre-orders.
