Default Removing a screen from the casing

Hi All,

I have a Draper 100" screen - a manual pull down that I have set up as a fixed screen.

I read in another forum that there are DIY people that have successfully built their own super light weight screen using poplar board framing and screen material.

I am looking to setup my screen as a permanent fixed screen without the weight of the casing - and was wondering if anyone has removed their screen from the casing and what type of results you got.

What I am looking to do is to remove the manual screen from the casing, frame it with poplar board, and then rehang it as a fixed permanent screen and store or discard the casing. Key word for me, is I want it to be light weight, and since I already have the screen, I thought it would make most sense to use what I have instead of purchasing new screen material.

Any thoughts?

Default Disky's New Cinema

I have removed my screen from its casing with excellent results. The screen is now super lightweight, and I am setting it up as a fixed screen in my new house in a dedicated Cinema. I was able to nail it to the wall like it was a giant "poster".

I will install the draping and masking systems after I have wired for sound.

Draping - for elegant effect and to open/close to change between 4:3 and 16:9

Masking - for 2.35:1 scope and elimination of black bars.

The theatre below in my signature is no longer in existence, as I have moved to a new house. My current display is a 42" 1080p LCD. My projector is set in my Cinema and aimed and toggled, 100" screen is installed but not dressed nor wired for sound.
