Arrow The Box Office Game/Contest & Discussion Thread

Introducing “The Box Office Game”.

There will be two parts to this thread:

1. The Box Office Game (rules below).
2. Weekly Box Office Discussions.

The rules and the standings of the participants will be in post #1. In post #2 some pics of the main film challengers for the upcoming weekend and theaters counts for each. The thread will be ongoing and constantly updated.

Rules: contestants are asked to place the top five box office movies for the upcoming weekend (less than five can be placed, but the opportunity to earn additional points will be forfeit). When placing your #1 favorite to take the box office crown, include a dollar estimate for the first three films in your top five list to be used as a tie-breaker. After each weekend there will be a Box Office Game winner. Once you win a weekend, your name will be permanently shown in post #1 with the week of your win. Points will be awarded as follows: 5 points for guessing the first place movie, 3 points for guessing #’s 2-3, 2 points for guessing #4, and 1 point for guessing #5. If two or more people are tied in points, then the closest dollar prediction for the #1 movie wins, if there's still a tie, we move to the total weekend dollar prediction for film #2, and so on for #3.All estimates must be placed before 10 PM EST on Friday night. Note: a post is edited after the deadline will be disqualified . Suggestions are appreciated (via PM).

Sample “ballot”

1. Alice in Wonderland: $40 Million
2. Shutter Island: $25 million
3. Brooklyn’s Finest: $20 million
4. Cop Out
5. Avatar

I amended the title to include box office discussions. Just placing 1-5 is a bit boring.

Mine is the same order, just switch Cop Out/Crazies. I also think Alice will make more...

1. Alice In Wonderland - $65 million
2. Shutter Island
3. Cop Out
4. Avatar
5. The Crazies

And just for fun, I'll go a few more:

6. Percy Jackson & The Olympians
7. Brooklyn's Finest
8. Valentine's Day

I put Avatar back in the top five after learning that Brooklyn's finest is not playing in that many theaters. Thanks to Diesel.

1. Alice in Wonderland - $53.2M
Its numbers will be helped by the 3D ticket prices.

2. Shutter Island - $13.7M
It declined about 45% last weekend, but I don't think it will decline quite as much this weekend. It'll drop 40% imo.

3. Avatar - $10.3M
It has showed a history of very small drops, so I think it drops by 18% if not for Alice taking 3D screens away from it. That makes the drop bigger, coming in at a 25% decline.

4. Cop Out - $8M
I don't think this one will hold that well. About a 55% drop.

5. The Crazies - $7M

This one is just a blind guess really, 55% drop as well.

I have been trying to find a 3D theater count, but have been unable to do so at this point. Hard to tell how many 3D and 2D theaters Avatar will have.

You don't think Brooklyn's finest will crack the top five? Some big stars in that movie.

Yea I haven't seen anything either.

I'll post it here if I find something first.

Nope.

It will be in only 1,800 theaters.

Shutter Island, Alice and Cop Out will be in over 3000 and Avatar/Crazies will be in over 2300/2400 respectively.

Edit: Though I have to admit, I haven't heard/read anything about it, so that is probably why I didn't even consider it in my list. If it does hit the top 5, I don't think it'll be higher than 5th.

Dam. I didn't know that. That is not many theaters. I have to do more research to do this game. Why does everything have to be so complicated.
