I just noticed that even with the front page news article, there is no thread about this.
Here is the cover art (from classicflix.com): ![]() ![]() A Star Is Born Blu-ray A Star Is Born Blu-ray WAC 2019 release Warner Home Video has announced A Star is Born, directed by George Cukor and starring Judy Garland, for release on a two-disc Blu-ray Deluxe Special Edition on June 22, including a 40-page booklet with rare photos, press materials and an essay by film historian John Fricke. As previously reported (see blu-ray.com, May 23, 2008), this was the first film to be completely mastered at 6K — from scanning to restoring to mastering. Special features include: Introduction Ten additional and alternate takes Film effects reel Vintage featurettes: A Report by Jack L. Day 1 buy for me. You can see a 720p version of the restoration on Netflix right now. Strangely enough though, the dialog channel is missing. Must be a technical goof. Oops. Looks quite a bit better than the DVD.

Just saw this for the first time... the only Judy Garland film apart from Wizard of Oz I've seen - she was really good in it! In general I really rather liked it, I think I'll be getting this - it's sure to be a great transfer/release!

I picked up a flyer for this at the TCM Film Festival and noticed it had a very wonderful piece of news not yet released (and I hope it isn't an error). It mentions, of course the 40-pg digibook, and we know there will be extras...but the flyer says:
"IMPRESSIVE BONUSES 40+ hours (emphasis mine) of Special Features including an hour of never-before-available enhanced content, alternate takes, deleted scenes and excerpts from Garland's audio recording sessions." |

Now that is an interesting article. Thanks! This Blu may not have it, but I have always been under the impression that this and Cleopatra had been completely destroyed. I had always hoped some survived - and the hope that some did certainly warms the heart for the future. Thanks so much for posting that!!! |

Don't get your hopes up too high. Apparently there's a good chance this "missing" print doesn't really exist... |

According to the last I saw when they did the DVD earlier in the OO's that a few scenes had been found but not in great condition no one has the completed version. I still hold out hope that someone out there has a copy, though as the years go on it seems less and less likely. It seems like such a travesty that they could just throw out 1/3 of a film like that and not even save it in a vault somewhere...

Turner Classic Movies Channel will be airing the new high def restored version of "A Star is Born" on June 19th.
![]() Edited to add: According to TCM and the VP of Warner, the movie will be shown as it was seen originally, in its 3 hr debut. Last edited by BasicGreatGuy; 06-06-2010 at 09:19 PM. |
