I should have done this in December, but the IIFA Awards 2011 belongs to CANADA! The very first time being in North America, they choose Toronto. That's only in the next province for me, so i'll DEFINETLY find time to go. It's from June 16-19, but i have a question.
Does anybody know what happens on these 3 days? I can't find any articles and i thought it was only a 1 day event lol. |

Not really a blu-ray topic.... but anyway.
Its kinda like a long weekend event type thing. The awards are usually on the final night. The other two days usually have premieres, launches, etc. There's also a celeb cricket match... Never been, its just what I've read |

![]() I could have put this in the Off Topic section, but barely anybody from the Region C - India section would see it; i wanted the perfect place for you guys to see this. Besides, the IIFA Awards is the celebration of Indian Cinema. ![]() Last edited by Blu-Curry; 03-06-2010 at 05:21 AM. |

Hi
The IIFA awards were held twice in South Africa, the first time in Sun City and the Next time in Johannesburg. I attended the one in Sun City, and it was spectacular. The three night weekend started like this: 1st night – they held a sports soccer match between the stars for charity 2nd night – Lagaan Premiered with a stellar star studded event. I personally met Aamir Khan and it was an experience I’ll never forget. 3rd Night – IIFA awards ceremony. In between that, you just cant help but get pulled in all the excitement. |

I'm so glad you made this topic! I was so happy when they made this announcement.
![]() I actually have NO IDEA what goes on during the 3-4 days. Possibly some exclusive screenings for movies to come in the future, then one night is the official Awards/TV night, and then I guess the others are parties? In any case, I hope the general public can get into some of these events 'cause I definitely want to go. I can already imagine the places they'll choose to host some events if they follow anything the Toronto International Film Festival does. ![]() |

I know man, this is going to be so amazing! This is basically the world travelling Oscars of Bollywood, and it's coming to Canada!
![]() I can't wait to get tickets; i hope they don't cost TOO much, but this is the perfect opportunity to go. ![]() |

@blu_curry
great that you are going, you will have tons of fun and excitement. So you'll be in Durban for the FIFA world cup? Great maybe we can meet, i have tickets for a match in Durban as well. The Excitement here in SA is building for the FIFA world cup. Its amazing. Plus we have heard that 25 matches will be broadcast in 3D, which will later be available on blu-ray. |

Yeah first time ever, Sony will be broadcasting matches in 3D. I can't wait; I wish I got the semi-final match in Durban but instead i have a knockout round on June 28th.
It would be pretty neat if awards shows like the Oscars or IIFA were broadcast in 3D as well. Especially IIFA since you have all those great song and dance stage performances. I must be honest... i hope i run into someone famous... preferably an actress hahaha. ![]() |

but this year IIFA is little dampner as many bollywood biggies boycotted due to pressure frm South Indian Films Association. Personally the venue should have been changed as the Gala event during this time since it hurts many tamil civilans in SriLanka. they have suffered alot in the hands of both army and LTTE.

Honestly, though, I think it would the location. Not trying to be rude or anything, but I'm sure Toronto will be a lot more accommodating. We host quite a few Hollywood festivals and Awards here so I don't see why anyone will boycott it and there being any political or racial bar to them.
But the awards handed out this year were outrageously stupid. Terrible nominations and wins all round. |
