I have the Onkyo HTR-667 Reciever that I got refurbised a year ago. My first BD player was the wallmart Magnavox player also from a year ago.
My old TV was a rear projection Hitachi w/ one HDMI port. I also have Directv HD-DVR all of which ran seemlessly. No Issues. 2 weeks ago I uprgaded to a samsung pn50b550 and a samsung p1600 BD player. DTV-DVR Remained untouched. When I went to play a blu I had no problems. The Onkyo 667 is hooked with HDMI cables and is used to control the entire audio/visual thing. Watching DTV the reciever does a great job, but when I switch to blu watching, I get no signal on the TV screen. This has been a hit or miss since hooking up this BD player. I have come across a term called hdmi handshaking and it sounds as if this could be my problem. Can someone please give me some tips on resolving this issue. I just ordered some new hdmi 3.1a cat 2 cables from monoprice to see if It they will fix it or I am fearing the dreaded I got to buy a new reciever or a different brand BD player. Is there a specific HDMI that is only capatible w/ my BD player and or has anyone had problems w/ thier onkyo reciever and the hdmi's not connecting right away. As I typed this I had the BD player on and I just switched to Blu viewing and it came on. Seems as if a 15 - 20 min load time is quite long? How common is that? Also on the reciever the icons that are lit up are HDMI DSP is that correct or have I miss configured something? It will be much appreciated if anyone can help me out as I am not a tech wiz when it comes to what is most likely a very small issue. thanks |

15-20 minutes is way too long for a blu-ray to load. My PS3 only ever takes about a minute at the most.
As for your problem, if it is in fact a handshaking issue, to my knowledge there really isn't anything you can do about it. It's up to the manufacturer of the receiver and/or blu-ray player to put out a firmware update that will hopefully deal with the issue. Who knows how long that will be? |
