I can't wait for this. Last year, Guerilla Games did a huge conference on using SPUs to achieve the killer graphics they got for Killzone 2. I'm sure the top tier developers have a lot to share this year.

Of course Sony picks the time that I have to work. Lame. I'll just have to check it later that night.

I think they should wait with the announcement and explode at E3.

This is what I'm waiting on. Uncharted 2 will have it's port-mortem presentation on March 11. Then, there is another big one on the 13th (I forget exactly what the title is). I love it! Man, you should hear some 3rd devs bitc- and make up excuse as to why PS3 exclusives look almost next-gen (when compared to 3rd party efforts)! Or, they say the X360 can do that too. However, we never see that even with it being out a year longer...lol. The haters come out in force. Well, they say you're not doing something right if you don't have a bunch of haters.

Dead Nation's due for an updated showing soon if still a spring/early summer release but I'd be surprised if it was demonstrated on stage.

Sony will probably focus on the motion controller at GDC and E3. Which I could care less about. Dualshock 4 life.

Well, in their defense, I'll have to say that sometimes even when it is possible to achieve that level of finish on a title, there just aren't the time and resources for it. If you read GG's notes from last year, even they said that transferring Killzone 2 from PPU to SPU was a massive undertaking, and it's not like they're just some new, small dev house.

This is impressive

Q&A, with a video.

Nothing new though, except that it apparently includes a wrist strap.

I don't know if the gyro's+accelerometers can track a controller spin like that to the exact number of spins but it's convincing. If you flip it the other way so the light ball swaps ends with the tail of the controller, obviously that can be assisted by the PS Eye tracking.

- The camera's tracking the x, y position,
- gyro's tracking the angle of the controller,
- and while still maintaining that angle, a mix of the accelerometers + gyros measuring rotation?

Having seen various MC devices, the third step is new to me.

Actually, a lot of this shouldn't been a part of the 3rd party's R&D funds from day one. Making games for new platforms is something they HAVE to do. If you do the proper research, it should pay off in the end (a game engine with great longevity).

I can understand not having enough time to achieve a certain level of finish, but Uncharted 2 was done in 18 months and with $20 million. What project doesn't have thaat kind of time for development? It's all because the proper R&D was done for the first title.

Also, I believe GG said transferring code from the PPU to the SPUs wasn't the massive undertaking. The massive undertaking was finding ways to parallelize their code. There is a huge difference. ALL devs have to do that for all platforms at some point going forward. Why not just get it out of the way and stop fighting it? SCE has constantly said at GDC to just port your systems to the SPUs. Don't try to optimize it or anything. There are usually huge performance benefits just from that being done alone.

I'm hoping there'll be talk about Sony Online Service at the Press Conference or at GDC. It's rumored and has been mentioned on countless websites that it's rolling out later this month, it would be nice to get a better look at the service prior to launching. How long is the conference for by the way?
