Default Who in the states has bought the The Fog (1980) UK Version

I checked the UK thread for this and it's kind of a joke. I don't think anyone goes over there. Anyway, since this is an American movie and there isn't an American release yet, I thought I'd post over here.

So I just took the plunge and ordered the UK version through a third party on Amazon for a pretty decent price. It's my second import. Has anyone bought this yet? If so, can I get a mini-review in terms of pq/aq.

I own the UK release, and watched it a few months ago. Just briefly watched some pieces to give you better feedback. The PQ is very good 4/5 for me. Good contrast, vivid colors, and a nice resolution in the image. In addition, the print is clean with a very fine layer (film like) of grain. The audio is DTS HD MA 5.1 and it is adequate. There are no special features on the release. If you are a fan of the movie, you will be very happy with your purchase.

Thanks Blu Titan. I appreciate your feedback. Looking forward to receiving this. It's one of my favorite Carpenter flicks.

Hmmm, sorry to be a downer but I think that the UK The Fog is not worth picking up. I live in the UK, bought it, then exchanged it for a refund on unacceptable quality grounds. Sure it certainly looks better than the dvd but I personally really couldn't award more than a 2.5/5 at best for PQ. I'm awaiting a more suitable version to import from the US...

+1
i always hear people poopooing this release and i was totally satisfied with it. if you are a fan of the film and have only seen it on the past US dvd releases this bluray is a revelation. sure there are better blurays out there but this is the best version of The Fog in existence.

Its better than the DVD. But that doesnt mean its great or anything. Lets not overstate it. Those tht are happy with it, thats great. I wouldnt recommend it though. Its an upgrade over DVD but I felt they could do better.

My 2 cents...

No regrets here. I don't own the dvd so just to have it on blu will be awesome even though the pq isn't the greatest. If it were a new release, I'd mind more but since it's an old movie, I'm sure I'll like it.

Any possibility of posting some screen caps?

P'gaah! I mistakenly picked this up in CEX here in the UK thinking it was the same as the later Optimum release. I was distracted by the clear casing and the bargain price and didn't notice it had no features. It has a 5.1 audio set up test and a video calibration thing.

PQ is shocking. If anything it's worse than my DVD looks upscaled. At least it has features.

I didn't think there was one, we've always had the same crappy upscale in the UK.

I don't mean a later transfer. Isn't there a UK BLU ray with at least the commentary on it?

Damn. I had planned on selling it and getting a new copy. For some reason I thought there were special features listed on the copy I saw at fopp. I must have just assumed it did. Mind you. I assumed the copy I had bought contained the extras until I got it home.
