In Memphis Beat, Jason Lee plays Dwight Hendricks, a Memphis police officer who lives with his mother. His intimate connection with the city and its people sets him apart from his fellow officers. Alfre Woodard plays Lt. Tanya Rice, a demanding boss determined to keep Dwight on a short leash. Also starring in Memphis Beat are Celia Weston (Junebug) as Dwight’s mother; Sam Hennings as Charlie White, aka Whitehead, his partner; Robyn Lively (Saving Grace) as Charlene, Dwight’s ex-wife; Leonard Earl Howze (Barbershop) as Reginald Greenback, a detective who works with Dwight and Whitehead; Abraham Benrubi (ER), a detective who uses Chickasaw tribal wisdom in his work; and DJ Qualls (My Name Is Earl) as Sutton, Dwight’s protégé.

Tanya Rice (Alfre Woodard), who brings a den mother approach to her job. Meanwhile, Dwight’s mother (Celia Weston) starts dating a charming new neighbor.

A missing teenage beauty pageant queen has the entire squad on the trail, but every corner they turn seems to reveal another level to her complicated situation. Dwight tries to help his ex-wife, Alex (recurring guest star Sunny Mabrey), get her health-food catering business off the ground. And everyone’s concerned about the way Lightfoot’s wife has been treating him.

Dwight and Whitehead (Sam Hennings) search for a missing truck driver after his young son tells his classmates he was kidnapped. Oscar® nominee Juliette Lewis (Cape Fear, The Other Sister) guest stars as Cleo Groves, a mother who will stop at nothing to hold her family together, even as poverty and the terrible secret of her husband's disappearance threaten to tear them apart. Meanwhile, Dwight tries to come to terms with his mother dating a man he doesn’t trust. And Dwight’s ex-wife, Alex, keeps sending mixed signals.
