European Starter Pack (Move motion controller + PlayStation Eye Camera + Demo BD-ROM) SRP €59.99 / £49.99
North American Starter Pack (Move motion controller + PlayStation Eye Camera + Sports Champions + Demo BD-ROM) SRP $99.99

First-Party Move Games: $39.99

PLAYSTATION®MOVE MOTION CONTROLLER SRP €39.99, £34.99, US$49.99, 3,980 yen (including tax)

The cornerstone of PlayStation Move, the PlayStation Move motion controller combines advanced motion sensors, a dynamic color changing sphere, vibration feedback, and an easy to use button interface. Equipped with a three-axis gyroscope, a three-axis accelerometer and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor, the PlayStation Move motion controller tracks the precise movements and angle of the controller. The PS3 system also detects the absolute position of the controller in 3D space by using the PlayStation Eye camera. Highly sensitive movement tracking can be accurately traced back to the game, allowing intuitive gameplay as if the player is within the game.

Key Features
  • Works with the PlayStation®Eye USB camera to accurately track player position
  • Advanced motion sensors precisely track both fast and subtle movements
  • Motion controller's sphere uses internal RGB LED to provide visual feedback
  • Vibration feedback is felt during specific actions
  • Includes DUALSHOCK®3 action buttons for advanced gaming
  • Utilizes Bluetooth® technology for wireless gaming
  • Built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery
  • Charge the controller and automatically pair with the PS3™ system via a USB cable (Type A to Mini-B)
  • Up to four motion controllers can be connected at once to the PS3™ system

PLAYSTATION®MOVE NAVIGATION CONTROLLER SRP €29.99, £24.99, US$29.99, 2,980 yen (including tax)

The wireless and untethered PlayStation®Move navigation controller is a must-have for core gamers. This supplementary controller adds directional buttons, an analog stick, and two shoulder buttons into the PlayStation®Move's control scheme. Used in most of the PlayStation®Move games that require navigating an in-game character, it replicates the control features of the left side of the DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller into your PlayStation®Move experience.

The navigation controller's analog stick (or directional buttons) allows for convenient XMB™ menu navigation, and the X button, O button and PS button make it simple to enter or exit any options of the XMB™ menu. In addition, the navigation controller contains the L1 button, L2 button and L3 button for actions and commands common in advanced gaming. Take your core experiences to new heights of realism and interaction with the PlayStation®Move navigation controller.

Key Features
  • Wireless control completely untethered from the PlayStation®Move motion controller
  • Intuitive navigation of in-game characters
  • Easy and intuitive XMB™ menu navigation
  • Built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery
  • Charge the controller and automatically pair with the PS3™ system via a USB cable (Type A to Mini-B)
  • Up to two motion controllers and two navigation controllers can be connected at once to the PS3™ system.
Note: The DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller can be used in place of the navigation controller for all games that are compatible with the navigation controller.

PLAYSTATION®EYE CAMERA SRP €29.99, £24.99, US$39.99, 2,980 yen (including tax)

As an integral part of PlayStation Move, the PlayStation Eye camera is designed specifically to work with the next generation of PlayStation Move games being developed for the PS3 system. Combined with the PlayStation Move motion controller, the PlayStation Eye camera precisely tracks a user's movement and the motion controller's sphere to help bring every action into the game. In addition, the PlayStation Eye camera captures a player's voice or face and when combined together with PlayStation Move games, will bring a whole new entertainment experience.

Key Features
  • Engineered to perform in low-light conditions
  • Two position zoom lens for close-up and full body options
  • At 60 frames per second, captures a sharp, clear picture at 640 x 480 resolution
  • Frame rate of up to 120 frames per second for improved tracking, responsiveness and smoothness

PS2 EyeToy Colour Tracking, Motion Detection, Gesture Recognition *2004* Demo

Overview: Components

Overview: Motion

The PlayStation Move motion controller has internal inertial sensors to detect motion:
  • 3-Axis Accelerometer
    • Position tracking and Pitch/Roll angle reference
  • 3-Axis Gyroscope
    • Orientation tracking
  • Magnetometer
    • Yaw angle reference

Overview: Position in 3D Space

But inertial sensors alone have fundamental limitations. So the motion controller also has a glowing sphere which the PlayStation Eye camera can track to give the controller's position in 3D space. Similar to the tech used in motion capture studios.

Overview: Glowing Sphere

The sphere can change colours thanks to an RGB LED. A colour is selected to uniquely identify multiple players and to contrast with the room for reliable tracking. But it can also be changed to suit context in the game, for example:
  • Red to indicate danger
  • Yellow muzzle flashes, red overheating
  • Green to indicate possible interaction with highlighted object

Overview: Processing

Processing of the PlayStation Eye camera feed is done by the PS3. CELL B.E. is excellent at image processing, so very high accuracy can be achieved at a low processing and memory overhead. Four motion controllers can be tracked simultaneously.

Summary
  • Robust tracking due to illuminated sphere combined with inertial sensors
  • Full 3D position and orientation

More PlayStation Eye + Software Capabilities

Face Detection
  • Detects head position and rotation
  • Supports multiple faces
  • Identifies individuals

Face Recognition

Demonstration Video
  • Face contour detection
  • Feature detection
    • Eyes, nose, mouth, etc.
  • Face attributes
    • Smile
    • Male/Female
    • Age (Adult/Child)
    • Glasses
    • Eyes open/closed
Head Tracking
  • Detects the silhouette of the head and tracks it
  • Even if the face is hidden, the head can still be tracked

PlayStation Voice Recognition (PSVR)

Demonstration Video
  • Voice recognition library
  • Input from the PlayStation Eye built-in four-capsule microphone
  • Voice data to ease recognition (bundled with the libraries)
  • Word dictionary for recognition (created on the user-side: update tool provided)
  • 6 languages supported:
    • Japanese, English, Italian, French, German & Spanish.
  • More language supported in the future.

So LBP is only gonna use the Move in co op mode? What about creation mode? That would be a great opportunity for it.

It's just all they've shown, no details on the full extent of LBP's support yet.

The realistic fighter's called DUKES now according to the EU PS.Blog.

Ooh, they've got 'Slider' pics, I'll add those. Reminds me of Incredible Crisis for PSone.

I know some will just say "oh, the wii comes to PS3" but you know what? This will be so much better because of the accuracy and the camera implementation.

Natal might have cleverer tech, but the Move beats it as far as I'm concerned because you can immediately see this being used in FPS games, something I can't see Natal coping with. And that means this is instantly accessible to the core gamer, not just the casual market that MS are targetting.

I can't wait for this!!!!

Voice control too, so although unlikely, it is possible you could use this system to control the XMB...

If the total package (PS Eye + Wand + Game) = $99.99, I would imagine the PS Eye and Wand is around $59.99. That might put a wand and/or sub-controller at around $29.99 to $35.99. Of course, these are just guesses based on the info given.

At first I was a bit skeptical about this, thinking it would be a simple Wii motion controller tacked onto the PS3. I already own a Wii and thus didn't see the need for it.

However, now that Sony has presented the controller in more detail as well as some of the games that will first come out for it, I'm starting to feel the urge to get this. It seems more precise than the Wii controller and if hardcore games like SOCOM implement it correctly, it'll be more than a gimmick only used by some small PSN games.

I already have the PS Eye and enjoyed using it with Eye of Judgement, so count me in for this as well.

The motion controller will be used in aragorns quest.

This game looks terrible, is it too much to ask for one decent action packed game thats gives justice to the movies and the books,
LOTR Conquest was crap, a waste of money and now this, no words except waste again.

I'll probably get it just because LBP has incorporated it. I could see it being a fun addition for torturing my friends with.
