Default Can the PS3 be set up as a Windows Media Extender?

I have a new PC with Windows 7. I set it all up and now when I use my PS3 there are new icons under game, music, and photos (maybe other places as well) - icons that have never been there before. They all say Aurora Media Server (Aurora is the name of my new PC, so the PS3 recognizes it). However, clicking the icons only gives me a message saying that the mdeia center has not been set up for this device. Futhermore, it does not give me a 8-digit code (like the 360 does).

Now, setting up the Xbox 360 Elite as a media server was a snap (hell, Windows Media Center includes a short video on how to set up the 360 so it was simple). Is there a similar setup method for the PS3? I mean, why would the PS3 put up new icons for the PC if it can't be used, there must be a way.

Really it doesn't matter much, I'm more curious about it than anything.

Googling this subject got me a lot of forum replies regarding using Tversity instead (which I'm not really familiar with yet).

You have to enable windows media player/center to share with the PS3.

I normally use TVersity just because windows does not play all types of files.

Another excellent program is PS3 Media Server.

Thanks, Crackin'!

That's pretty much what I figured, but I was unable to locate any place to enable file sharing.

I'm using an Xbox 360 but I can tell you that you can also use a program called Playon to stream files from your PC to the PS3 but Tversity IMO does a better job at transcoding files.

The killer app for Playon is its plethora of plugins that will enable you to stream TV Shows and Music from Hulu, Revision3, Netflix, Pandora, Comedy Central, CBS, ABC, etc etc etc etc.

I dumped my Direct TV and upgraded to a 6Mbps cable internet connection because of the Playon software.
