Default Is it time already to upgrade?

I currently have an Onkyo SR 706 that i've owned for the last 15 months or so. Lately, i've noticed that when i turn it on and switch on my P3 or sometimes my xbox360, i dont game my theme sounds on the dashboard. the only way to get the sounds to come back is to power off the onkyo by removing it out the wall outlet, then plugging it back in. its not consistently doing this but it does happen enough to get annoying. So now im thinking i may need to get another receiver. I also dont like how hot the onkyo gets after using it for a while. anyone has any suggestions for an upgrade? i need to have 7.1 sounds

I've been having some problems with my Onkyo 605 and just decided to upgrade. I ended up getting a Denon 3310CI (it's on the way), I read as many reviews as I could and I got it for a great price. I'll try to post back on here with my impressions once I get it hooked up.

What is your budget for the upgrade?

Also consider whether the Onkyo is still under warranty or not. You may be able to have it repaired for free.

Wait a little bit longer after you turn on your receiver, before you turn on the PS3 or 360. I get that problem from time to time when I get too impatient. I don't let my receiver finish booting up (hear a click and see measage indicating switching audio from TV to receiver), and my 360, instead of setting it's audio to DD 5.1, goes to LPCM. The audio still works in the dashboard, by there is a delay in recognizing the new signal with each menu change, and sounds get lost.
