Arrow Adrien Brody Almost Played Joker In 'The Dark Knight'

Did anyone else know this? While I'm glad Ledger ended up with the part, I think that Brody, who can really lose himself in his rolls, would be great playing a villain. Which villain could you see him playing? The Riddler? Someone else?

Head on over here to see the video.

Quote:
"I did," said Brody when asked if he'd pursued the role of Gotham's criminal clown. "I met Chris on that."

"Heath was tremendous in that, but yeah, I would've loved to have done that," he added. "It was an amazing role. Amazing."

Asked whether any similar roles had caught his eye over the years, hero or villain, he described his own view on the rapidly growing genre.

"It's not one specific thing that attracts me, it's.. bringing truth to something that had this impact on you in your youth, and basically growing up and have that inside of you — stored away with all the memories you have of it," he said.

Adrien Brody did a small movie about ten years ago called Oxygen and he was serial killer in it.

That's interesting. I wasn't aware he was considered for the role. What the late Heath Ledger did with the role was outstanding, but Brody is an extremely talented actor and it would have been interesting to see what he brought to the character if casting had gone the other way.

I think he'd be great as Edward Nigma!

He almost seems like he would have been more sinister...he's got that long, angular face like the Joker does in the comics. I bet that would have been pretty awesome.

I think in hindsight people will bash this news, because of how Ledger turned out. However, I remember reading on rottentomatoes that Ledger got the part and I actually laughed a bit out loud because I just couldn't picture it and I was never a big fan of his. If I had heard then that it was to be Brody, I would've been much more interested because Brody at the time was a more talented actor, despite not displaying significant range.

Of course, we'll never know how he would have turned out, but it's hard to believe that his performance would have exceeded Ledger's (despite the fact that I think Ledger's performance really teeters on overacting).

I wouldn't use 'overacting', as I think it was pretty good for what it was, but I honestly believe that it was overhyped due to his death for what it was.

I mean, if he hadn't died, people wouldn't have hyped it up as much.

I think Brody could have done a good job. He has the right face for crazy if you ask me.

Ledger rocked the Joker and even now when I watch that performance it makes me smile as it really did put DK over the top of awesome.

If they were to shift gears after Nolan, an adaptation of Long Halloween with Brody as Holiday wouldn't be the worst idea.
