Default DS2 Rumor Roundup - Tegra2 with dev kits being released?

http://cerberus.fileburst.net/showthread.php?t=55362

http://www.destructoid.com/rumor-aga...s-163815.phtml

Quote:
We expected a glorious spray of Nintendo DS successor rumors after hearing that it would be, allegedly, revealed at GDC 2010. But while we haven't been assaulted, it doesn't mean more rumors haven't been uttered. For example, French Web site Game Kult is reporting, via unnamed sources, that devs have their hands on successor kits.

That should sound familiar. The original "DS 2" rumor had as much in it, but we're guessing -- and really this is all a fun guessing game -- that Game Kult's sources are a little further east than the original stories' sources. Either way, we'll still have to play the waiting game. GDC needs to happen, like, now or something.

Default Third-party studio offers more confirmation of motion-sensing Nintendo DS2

http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/17/t...on-sensing-ni/

Quote:
We've already had a pretty clear indication that Nintendo's inevitable DS successor would have at least some form of motion control, and an unspecified third-party studio has now offered some additional confirmation of that, and some downright glowing impressions of the device itself. According to CVG, an "insider" that's currently using a DS2 development kit says that the DS2 is "genuinely the best thing I think I've ever worked with," and that it has "a 'tilt' function that's not dissimilar to iPhone, but does a lot more." The source further added that The Pokemon Company is getting "special attention" with it (rest easy, everybody), and that Nintendo likely won't be showing off any hardware at GDC next month. Yeah, that sound you just heard was the rumor mill being cranked up a notch.

Apparently this is the rumored set of features so far:

1) Two screens, with virtually no seam between them when open
2) Screens are larger and higher resolution, but exact resolution is unknown
3) Powered by nVidia Tegra
4) Roughly as powerful as a Gamecube, and apparently similar to program for
5) Uses carts - believed to be same physical size as DS/DSi carts, only with different guts
6) Due out in 2010 in at least one territory
7) Accelerometer for motion control

Default Nintendo announces 3DS -- the glasses-free 3D successor to the DS

Quote:
Whoa, now this is a whopper coming (almost) out of nowhere. Nintendo has just slipped out a press release in Japan informing the world that all-new 3D-capable portable hardware is coming, with a full unveiling set for E3 2010 this June. Tentatively titled the 3DS, this glasses-free 3D wonder is pitched as the successor to both the DS and DSi, and will use a "compatible cart" that should ensure backwards compatibility with your vast library of favorites from the older consoles. Nintendo expects to launch the 3DS into retail "during the fiscal year ending March 2011."
Quote:
Rumblings of a next-gen handheld started soon after Nintendo shrunk the DS and whacked a "Lite" behind it, but two portables later (the DSi and DSi XL) and Nintendo Japan is foretelling a June announcement for the 3DS.

- With the announcement slated for E3 in June, Nintendo's shooting a bit early in their Japanese press release by saying it will go on sale sometime between April 2010 - March 2011.

- You won't need to wear 3D glasses to enjoy the 3D effects (somehow), according to their release.

- Backwards compatibility will be incorporated for DS and DSi games support.

- It may have an accelerometer for tilt-controls with motion-led gaming, just like the iPhone/iPod Touch.

- The screen might be higher-res than anything we've seen from Nintendo before, probably just 720p though.

- It'll have two screens just like previous portables, but they'll be used in conjunction as one giant screen, according to RPAD.tv, who convinced developers to talk to them at GDC.

- Nintendo might put a 3G sim in, for over-the-air downloads.

- Those over-the-air downloads might include ebooks, something already seen on the DSi XL.

I'd love to see what this puppy can do. I might be in the minority when I say I wish it had full backward-compatibility with all GB and GBA games, but oh well.

Here's the same PDF as the one above, only in English:

Still rocking the dual screens eh? Can't say I was a fan of that, but oh well. I haven't been into portables since the Game Gear lol.

This will be awsome

Plus the Pokemon Company us getting "special attention with it"

We could see Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald remakes for this in 2012 (2013 here so lets not die)
Plus the new generation V games might be launch titles which would mean this thing WILL be the video game sales equivalent of Avatar, Lord of the Rings and Titanic put together!

I'm interested to see more about it when they display it at E3. I'm expecting this year's to be the year of motion control and 3D gaming.

My folks bought my brother and sister a DSi for Christmas. After they bought those, the DSi XL was announced and now another system. It's been 4 months since Christmas. Nintendo is greedy as s***.

As are all businesses especially in this industry . When it comes to portable gaming however these different models are actually much more applicable then say home consoles getting a slim version (i say consoles because i read that 360 is following suit with a slim of their own).

Look forward to seeing this, as i was pretty impressed with the DS when it first came out as well as some of the changes recently. A smaller gap between the screens
would be a big plus.
