Default Toy Story 1 & 2 only in dvd packaging???

I picked up TS 1 and 2 today and toys r us told me they only came in the standard dvd packaging/ dvd+bluray combo pack... I see pics online for the bluray packaging. Just wanted to know if anyone knows if toys r us only got the dvd package or what...

I really want the smaller cases...

It seems to be very much a store by store issue. At TRU specifically, some folks have had success asking for the Blu-Ray case edition even though they have not been out on display.

When I picked my copies up at Target this morning, the chap stocking the display didn't know that there were two different packaging based editions.

Hi,

You can find it in Blu Ray cases. Some stores only have the DVD Cases version though. (Yuk!)

Edit- I got mine at Best Buy where they had many copies of both versions.

I would at least look around for ones in the blu-ray cases, worth a try before you move on to another store.

It looks like TRU got a lot of the DVD size packaging and only a limited amount of the BD size. My BB had plenty of both but it's second nature for me to find the BD size so I picked them up and that was it. If you like DVD size then more power to you (Wolverine seems to like the DVD cover art more) but I'd seriously take them back to TRU and find the Blu case version. At least that's what I would do if TRU didn't have them and I could get them somewhere else.

Target seemed to have plenty of both.

Someone brought this up in a now locked thread I think but I think it is kinda ridiculous that they're doing the double case option for these two movies because it actually makes LESS sense for collectors. If you have a combo/blu ray collection of all the Pixar films then logically you would want to get the blu ray cases since all the other Pixar films came in this packaging. If all the Pixar films you own are just regular DVDs and you just want to get the regular DVD for Toy Story, then you can wait the extra couple of months to get this in the regular packaging for cheap. They're pulling the same ridiculous scam with Snow White. It's no "serving the collectors" deal at all.

And who wants to bet that when Toy Story 3 comes out it will only have the combo pack in the BluRay packaging?

You know what else would've made sense? Providing the DVD packaging for the Pinocchio and Sleeping Beauty combo packs. That way at least they can be placed alongside the rest of the Plantinum Collection equally and you would still have a Blu Ray copy of the two films.

I searched all over at my TRU and could not find any blu-ray packaging. I went into the electronics/video game section and asked. they had a stack for both movies and most were the dvd packaging, but they had a few blu-ray ones. The guy handed me the blu-ray packaging and said "you do know they are the same contents" I nicely said yes but it would look dumb having all blus and then 2 dvd cases. I am sure all TRU got the blu packaging, but don't think workers a) realize there are two types or b) don't realize people will care which one they get.

I have a nasty guess at what might be happening...

Since the packages contain the same content either way... I have a nasty feeling like a lot of DVD-player owners are the ones accidentally getting the Blu-ray cases... or perhaps even on purpose because they are smaller cases... so that then when Blu-ray customers come in there are less left.

In other words... I don't think DVD-owners are only buying the DVD-case versions... which is why I kinda wish they would just stop this nonsense of releasing the same content in 2 different size packages.

They should release a Blu combo for people who want both, and put that in the Blu packaging. Then they should release a DVD-only (without Blu) and put that in a DVD package.

Then stores will order more appropriately for their sales, and people will buy the right packaging.

I've said it before: The ones in DVD cases are aimed at DVD owners. The idea is to get them to buy it as the DVD, then tell them how it's SO much better if you get a BD player and play the OTHER disc instead.

^ Yea but it's still confusing as shit for the general public when you have 2 releases for each movie with both releases saying DVD + BD or BD + DVD or some other stupid variation of the phrase. I hate how the studios are running this shit.

i went to 2 toysrus near me.
both all DVD cases. I even asked a worker there knowing what the answer would be.
I asked him if they had any in the bluray cases. he said "umm this is bluray. see it says bluray + DVD. its the same thing"

It kinda sucks when the store clerks are more clueless about all of the BluRay/DVD stuff than the people who are buying them.

Ok I went in to return them today after going round and round they did get blu cases... maybe only 7, and that was not near enough to cover the preorders they had. No doubt the last minute postings of the $15 savings and PATF helped to raise their preorder numbers and the order had already been placed before that broke out.

I was shown an email from corp saying they are aware of the problem and are ordering more blu versions sent to the stores...

So there we go... They are going to "call me" when they come in. Just wish it did not take 3 trips to figure all of that out...

If I had not recieved a giftcard for god of war 3 I would just go somwhere else...

My TARGET had the same problem. I asked someone because there was only one BLU-RAY copy left of TS1 and none of TS2. I think someone nailed it: I think they're trying not to "scare" off DVD owners by not putting the BLU logo anywhere on the front and "2nd" on the information teir in back

I got mine at target in the BLU packaging. There were alot of the DVD case types maybe 4 to 5 spaces for them with only 3 spaces for the BLU types (1 for Toy Story 2 and 2 for Toy Story 1). There was alot of stock for all types though all the spaces were filled to breaking point.

Maybe once Disney sees how well the Blu-Ray packaging sold against the standard DVD packaging for these films, the confusion will finally end and they will just stick with the Blu Ray cases for most future combo packs. (They'll probably continue this for the Diamond Edition films though).

I cant wait for this sales week to be over so I can read the reports on the sales for these two films. I'm betting dollars to donuts the # of sales were more insane than TPatF.

I called my local Toys R' Us last night and they said they only carry the DVD packaging, so I had to pass on going there. I called my local Target to see if they had both Toy Story movies in the Blu-ray packaging and they told me they did, so I went there to get my Toy Story movies. My total for both movies was $27.54. It would've been $37.54, but I used both $5 off coupons.
