Canada Avatar Special Edition Question

Has it been stated if the Special Edition will include the "superbit" edition that is coming out soon? Wouldn't it make the most sense to include that version and use a second Blu-ray for features? That way Special Edition buyers are not penalized and get the best copy of the movie available.

It is unknown at this point.

The special edition cut is supposed to have extra footage. But when it is released, I can see just the feature with a commentary track on one disc, and all of the extras on another disc.

No. From the news being thrown around, there would be ANOTHER release in 2011. With Avatar popping back into theaters this June for 3D, I don't think they will for this year.

If the Special Edition is supposed to have extra footage then it will be on the main movie disc so it can be viewed seamlessly with the movie. Looks like Special Edition buyers won't be getting superbit.

When it comes out in 3D, how many will buy it if they don't have a 3D television?

I checked out a demo of a 3D tv today and it was impressive. Still got to wear the glasses and they ain't cheap.

I could see it being some sort of PiP Commentary though, which would mean the special edition wouldn't be superbit. I can't imagine it making a huge difference though, but I'll definitely be interested in seeing comparison shots in the future.

I'd buy it. I don't have a 3D TV yet but I would Avatar if it was released now in readiness for when I get the TV
