Default Where do you buy your video games?

Interested to know where you fellow gamers buy your stuff. Personally I don't mind brick and mortar stores for my gaming needs as I can almost always find what I need without much trouble and pricing is usually consistend from store to store at least in my area. Blu-ray movies are a different story alltogether though, that's why I am Amazon.ca exclusive for them.

I usually buy from GameStop or Best Buy. Like you pointed out, pricing is pretty consistent from store to store, especially for new games, so I prefer to buy locally and not have to order from anywhere.

I'll buy from BB if I have a gift card. Other than that I look for used games off Amazon or look for local sales off craigslist or something similar. If it is a PC game I'll usually buy through Steam, but only if there is a deal going on. Usually if the game is above 20 bucks I won't buy it. So I don't own many new games.

I'll hit gamestop up for some very low priced used games. My rule is usually under $20 a new game and under $10 for a used game. Silent Hill is my exception to that rule.

If the game is something I'm dying to play immediately, then I will usually pre-order at a B&M store like BB. Other than that, I don't mind waiting and saving some scratch by ordering from AMZ. Their new PS3 releases are usually $54.99 or $56.99, and without sales tax..

I do a combination of sources:

I shop GameStop for alot of them: if there's a special edition or obscure title I can only get there, I will. I also shop there for slightly older titles on the used shelves.

I'll get new games at Best Buy now and then too.

I like to check out offerings from independent game traders when I can, especially if they have anything rare.

If in-person shopping efforts fail, ebay and amazon.

For me, it varies b/n BB, Gamestop or Amazon, depending on which has the better price.

Like someone posted above, I try not to spend more than $20 for a new game, esp since I'm pretty backlogged rite now. I've got AC2, Darksiders, Dragon Age, Modern Warfare, World at War, Fight Night 4, Mass Effect and Metroid Prime Trilogy still sitting unopened on the shelf. And I'm still trying to finish HL2, Dead Space, Uncharted 2, Halo ODST, Burnout and GOW2!!

There's just not enuff time in a day...

Amazon 99% of the time. Free release date delivery(for prime members), few $$$ cheaper, and no tax seals the deal for me.

And Amazon has been dropping the price on games that are few months old 15.00-20.00. Best Buy and Gamestop usually don't do that.

btw

Right now GOW III at Amazon is 53.54..

http://www.amazon.com/God-War-III-Pl...9879546&sr=8-4

that saves about $13.00 if you bought it at Best Buy, Walmart etc.

If it's a newly released game (one that has come out within the past year or so is what I would consider new), then I will likely just buy it at our local Best Buy or GameStop because buying it online won't really save all that much money (usually). If it's a bit older, or if (for example) another or updated version of the same game is out, then I would buy the older one online. If it's a truly vintage or out of print title, then you pretty much only have eBay and such, and I'll buy there. I've picked up a fair amount of used cartridges from eBay, although
[Show spoiler]with all my emulators
I don't really play the actual consoles anymore.

Not always. White Knight Chronicles just came out in February. Amazon is selling it for 44.99. I'm sure most stores are selling it for MSRP@59.99. Amazon did have Dante's Inferno down to $38-45 for a few weeks. That came out in February as well. They recently moved the price back to $56.99.

Darksiders was another new game at Amazon that dropped to 40.00 for a few weeks. Bayonetta is 39.99 right now. Last time I saw that game in the store it was still 59.99

I bought Tekken 6 brand new from Amazon(on release date late 09) for 45.00 shipped. Since then it's been for sale at Amazon as low as 17.00.

Yeah, you're right that it's not always the case. I was just going off of "most of the time" scenarios. I was also kind of building in the money saved vs. how badly or quickly I want it factor. If I want a game right now, which is usually the case with me when I want a game, then I'll just drive down and buy it; the ~$10 saved isn't worth the time spent waiting (usually).

It seems like the more popular games are the ones that don't have the huge variations in pricing no matter where you go, although there are exceptions to that as well.
