Default Matrix vs Matrix Set

i have birthday coming up and i am curious if i should ask for The single 10th Anniversary edition of the first or should i blow away some of my budget and have them get the set? i just recently watched the DVDs and noticed how bad the CGI was (great for the time) and i really love the first one and the other 2 I can survive having on DVD for a while until the price comes down

you know what ive just convinced myself

but anyway what do you First movie for 20 or Set for 80ish?

The Matrix is currently $13.49 on Amazon; that's a pretty good deal.
Personally, I only have the first movie in my collection, but the first one also looks the "worst" in High Definition due to age/lower budget/etc.

Judging by your other threads, you seem to be obsessed with "CGI." The Matrix was a great film, even though it is starting to show some age. I'd highly recommend it -- a must own for any Blu-ray collector.

I like to pretend The Matrix is a standalone film, so personally I'd skip the box set.

Yeah I do that with The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Die Hard...
And hope to do it with Alien+Aliens when that comes out on BR...

I picked up both. The Matrix digibook was on sale for $14.99 a while back. I used the redtoblue program to pick up a the Ultimate Matrix Collection Set. I picked up the hd-dvd set for cheap, and then I sent in the Matrix Revolutions artwork (I scanned a copy of it first for the hd-dvd set) so that I could get the Set for around $25'ish. I just checked, and they are still doing the redtoblue program. I'd probably go with the digibook for now, and if you can score a copy of The Matrix Revolutions in hd-dvd, then you can send in for the Ultimate Matrix Collection for around $27.00 (+plus whatever the hd-dvd cost you, which you can probably recoupe some of that be re-selling the hd-dvd). If you go with the digibook, and you like digital copies, look for one with a digital copy sticker on it. Some of them do not have the digital copy included.

I picked up the entire set for $50 when Best Buy had it on sale back in December. Definately worth it, IMO.

You can import the trilogy for ~$30 at amazon.co.uk. It's a great price. I'm tempted to pick it up, even though I'm not a fan of the last two movies.

The Blu-rays are identical to the U.S. versions, except that the UK box does not include the Animatrix. That is a separate BD in Europe.

I saw that but figured there'd be a 4% PAL speedup... maybe not?

There is no PAL speedup on film material in a Blu-ray. The UK Blu-rays are bit-for-bit identical video and audio encodes to the U.S. versions.

I guess it depends how much of a fan you are. I'm not trying sh!t on anyone that hated the later two movies, but I absolutely loved all three (not that one could tell by my username).

I HATE the fact that Warner won't release all three individually. I have, however, seen the set as low as $50 on Amazon.

If you can hold off, wait 'till the price drops. Amazon's prices are constantly fluctuating.

That's definitely an awesome deal. I would go for it but I already have the first movie on BD. I bought it before I discovered the awesomeness of importing. I really think that the OP should buy that UK set. I highly recommend it

Indeed - clearly getting the boxset is quite a good deal (well, it is in the UK anyway, not sure about US prices), but I have no desire to watch the sequels again, as I found them pretentious and rather dull. But if you like all three of them, go for it. If it's image quality/CGI you seem interested in, then I'd probably get the set as then you get a great film, and some better CGI (just not in the same movie(s)!)

Yeah, that was back in December when they price matched Best Buy. That's when I got mine.

I have seen the Ultimate Collection for $49.99 on Amazon.ca before. As soon as it hits that price again I'm all over it.
