Default Where can I find cheap but good speakers?

I want to get some speakers in my room for my PS3 watching Blu-Rays and playing games. Are there any good speakers around $200 I can find somewhere?

audioengine A2 ($200): Small size, BIG sound

http://www.audioengineusa.com/a2_home.php

Swan M10 ($119): Good looking, good sounding, and cheap. Just make sure you have room to put all three speakers on your desk at ear level

check out the Jamo speakers its the 5.0 package of Jamo S 406

They also have the Jamo C 401 bookshelfs and the C 400 Cen on sale. They are better speakers, and about the same price.

Do you have a receiver? Or are you just hooking these up directly to your TV or something? Please provide more info.

These guys with a sub would do well:

These guys should be good even without a sub:

With a little DIY treatment to dampen the cabinets on these, they are pretty decent speakers for the money.

They were a good deal when they were $45/pr. Not so much at the current price. Danny Ritchie sells a kit to modify them:

Even though the price has gone up, they still are a decent speaker. Almost everything else with its performance is at or above their price.

I looked into the Danny Ritchie upgrade with Skiing Ninja, but decided to pass. With both of them involved, it was going to total almost $200. Not really worth it at that price. I don't have a soldering iron and all the other stuff, but someone who does the GR kit may well be worth the cost (lower without Skiing Ninja assembly)

just a set of stereo speakers. I have a set of tritton ax pro headphones. they have 5.1 surround sound on them but it gets annoying wearing headphones just to watch a movie with hd sound

Unless you have one of the very rare TVs that have powered speaker level outputs (my dad has a Samsung that does, ~10yrs old) you can't connect speakers directly to your TV. You need to also budget for a receiver/amp of some kind to amplify the signal coming from the TV.

Both of my suggestions are powered, no separate amp or receiver needed. Just hook it up straight to a PS3 or cable box. Amazing sounding too (for the price of course), Ive heard both

I have these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836116044
I found them on sale for $70 though. If you do some shopping and could find them for close to that, they are a great speaker. All the plugs come with to hook up to a TV also. I have some pictures of them in my gallery also.

the OP didn't say anything about having a receiver. So, going off that, powered speakers are a must, unless you're going for the receiver/speaker setup. As the OP stated, $200 dollars, that isn't enough to get a receiver and a set of speakers (decent at least) So yes, I posted a link to some self powered computer speakers. They can be used for a TV as well. The box comes with all the cables required to plug into a TV. They do sound very well also. They fill up my computer room quite nicely. I doubt there are many speakers for $70 that are on par with it.

A 2 channel receiver can be found pretty cheap. Another option is to go with a small 2 channel amp that has a volume control. Something like the Dayton from Parts Express or an AudioSource. It is a bit more pricey, but would work great. Check for used on both of these and it would be possible to stay within the budget.

If you can swing an extra $60, I highly recommend you try out Aperion Audio's Intimus 4B speakers. They're factory direct, and have been very well reviewed. The fit and finish is great, with real wood offered both in piano black or a warm cherry. The cost is $130 each, and they currently are offering free shipping.

Aperion Audio is located in Portland, Oregon

$150 with code EMCYRYT44 expires 4/12/10

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-36121122-LP4C

Comes with an excellent 8" sub. I've got a similar system and I think 99% of the population would be more than impressed with this set.

Otherwise cost of entry for a receiver, two speakers, and a sub is going to be at least $350 I would say.
