Default Horror Express and The House that Dripped Blood - Severin

Unbelievable day for cult horror! And these are definitley Blu-rays as well as DVD.

Horror Express Blu-ray Nov 29

Horror Express Blu-ray Review

The House That Dripped Blood Blu-ray

Fangoria: http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?op...ews&Itemid=167

It’s been a good couple of days for fans of British horror on disc. On top of the Synapse/Hammer and HORROR HOSPITAL news we reported here and here comes the scoop that the Amicus omnibus classic THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD and the Spanish/UK co-production HORROR EXPRESS (pictured left) are also coming on new special editions.

Severin Films will issue the movies this fall with fresh hi-def transfers on new DVDs and, for the first time, on Blu-ray. The films will be accompanied by a host of supplements, details of which are coming soon. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee star in both flicks; HOUSE, also featuring Ingrid Pitt (pictured right), Denholm Elliott, Jon Pertwee and Joss Ackland, is an anthology of four short chillers scripted by PSYCHO’s Robert Bloch, while EXPRESS, co-starring Telly Savalas, is about a brain-sucking monster loose on a Trans-Siberia

That's too cool -- and surprising! Horror Express has never been issued in a quality print, mostly in poor pan and scan public domain copies and in one so-so out-of-print wide-screen version.

It's a fun film. Not only does it feature Lee & Cushing, it has Telly Savalas (pre-Kojak) as a Russian police official. And a cool, prehistoric, brain-draining monster on the loose on a runaway train!

House that Dripped Blood is good too, but Horror Express is especially unexpected.

I'm actually floored. Horror Express is one of my absolute favorites. I have the OOP Image DVD which is probably the best it's ever looked on Region 1 video, but it definitely needed some restoration and clean-up. Now let's hope they don't **** up the encode!

I hope Dark Sky will release Asylum on Blu-ray ...another great Amicus anthology film. Can Warner Bros. be far behind with their collection of Hammer classics?

Let's hope that Horror Express is a good transfer. The thing that worries me is the film is in the public domain. The Simitar DVD looked pretty bad IMO.

Severin Films have been doing a fairly good job so far considering the type of films they release. So far any deficiencies in the Blu-Ray's they have released have been due to poor source material (Screwballs) and not from shoddy transfers.

I watched the BD of Severin's release of Inglorious Bastards and it was a bit soft but that was die to what others have noted the source material used.

I own the Lionsgate release of House that Dripped Blood (Amicus) on DVD and the transfer looks like as long as severin uses a print better or as good, goodbye pesky video noise. It will be a welcome release.

I want so many HAMMER, and AMICUS films on BLU, but I wish like someone else posted the 3 Pack that Dark Sky released would get BD treatment.

Horror Express is one of my favorite 70's horror movies. Hope The Blood On Satan's Claw is also released on blu soon. As well as all Hammer and Amicus horror movies of that era.

apparantly so! Warner was talking about releasing HORROR OR DRACULA
and CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN way back in Dec of 2008 (or was it 2007?) in an interview on the Digital Bits site....

So I take it these titles mentioned won't be released before Halloween, or possibly the end of 2010 ? no official announcements at all.

From what I understand they are working on them, so hopefully they will be for a spring release.

Don't forget PSYCHOMANIA AND CRUCIBLE OF TERROR on 10/26/10. DVD only, but still worth a look. Hopefully blu also if the DVDs sell good.

Looking forward to these. Horror Express is one of the first VHS tapes I ever owned so it has a nostalgic place in my heart. I've only seen Sevrin's Hardware on Blu and I thought it was fantastic for PQ and extras.
