the link above is about how much affect the playstation 3 has on the format war. HD DVD group should be counting the PS3 as a bluray player. the system has BD built in, and its games are on BD Discs. it is true that it is a video gaming system, but then again it is also a BD player. it is but a fact, and if ignored then it is DENIAL OF THE FACT. what do you guys think? |

I think the PS3 is a quite viable Blu-ray player, but it should be considered a player that has inherently low attach rate; 60% of PS3 users don't know it has a Blu-ray drive in it.
That being said, it's still kicking the stuffing out of the HD DVD sales numbers week in and week out. |

Hey guys,
While I don't agree with this article, I thought you would enjoy it. Has some interesting stats on the format war. http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/33444/118/ Merged with existing thread. ~Wondermaker |

Reading some of the comments is downright depressing.
I thought I'd seen some insane HD-DVD is winning people before, but I think this takes the all time out-of-this-world belief(paraphrased): You can't trust the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD software numbers because Sony lies. |

I read this yesterday and had to step back from my machine in frustration. . .
"There's no question in my mind that HD DVD is a fundamentally better product. If it were up to the true videophiles to decide, it probably would be gaining a lot more traction." Which of the technical details (did he mention anything technical) in the article support his conclusion? Certainly not the capacity for larger movies or less-lossy transfers or higher bandwidth off the media. He pointed to features that, judging by Blu-ray out-pacing HD-DVD sales, would be secondary to most videophiles. I want the best PQ and AQ and that's what BD delivers. Did you read the reader comment about the 50GB doesn't matter because by the time it is needed we'll have a newer format? When the same (or lesser) LoTR transfer shows up on HD-DVD with an extra disk I'll try to find that ignorant post and ask. -CB |

Blu-Ray has a maximum Audio/Video Transfer of 48.0 Mbit/s compared to HD-DVD who has a maximum of 30.24 Mbit/s for Audio/Video Transfer the Blu-ray on a 2 Layer Disc can hold 50 GB while HD-DVD only has 30 GB information taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray so Blu-ray is faster and holds more yet Videophiles jump to a format that that is more limited in speed and space because it gives better image quality? lol |

Also in the report mentioning something about the HDDVD should have a killer app added to videogaming consoles, didn't microsoft release the Elite and decided not to add an HDDUD app into they system. that says alot about where microsoft stands in the format war, they are unsure of the technology, and also it could mean that they know bluray will win the format war.

Raby also wrote the following, referring mostly to interactive features.
Quote:
I consider myself a videophile (I have no games for my ps3, at least not yet), and I chose BD because of the better potential for all features, including longer term interactivity, PQ, AQ etc. |

The 5:1 hardware advantage leading to a 2:1 disc sales advantage isn't at all accurate, because 40% of the PS/3 owners (about 600K units for North America) don't even know they have a Blu-ray player. It's easy to inform people they already own something. And its probably 1000x easier to get them to use what they already have, than try to convince them buy something new. Gary |
