Default The Official "Fairly Legal" Discussion Thread

Quote:
In an attempt to expand their female-centered dramas, USA has committed to a full season order of the new legal drama, Facing Kate. Created by Caroline in the City mastermind Michael Sardo and starring former Life actress Sarah Shahi, Facing Kate will follow frustrated litigator, Kate Reed, who decides to quit her current profession to become a mediator – the anti-lawyer.

As with all USA series, Facing Kate will kick things off with a 90-minute premiere followed by eleven hour-long episodes.

For the past couple of years, USA has become known for steering away from your typical cookie-cutter series and Jeff Wachtel, president of original programming, believes that this trend will continue with Facing Kate as the show has something more to offer viewers than the typical legal drama.

“This is someone who lives in a world of a constant conflict. With traditional lawyers, it’s always one wins, one loses; in mediation, the goal is to have win-win.”

While I’ll be the first to admit that the notion of “win-win” doesn’t exactly sound like an enthralling series, one can’t deny that for the past couple of years USA’s track record with original programming has been relatively flawless, with Psych, Burn Notice, Royal Pains and newcomer White Collar all proving to be hits for the network.

Richard Dean Anderson To Recur
Quote:
What happens when you combine bicarbonate of soda, a wad of chewing gum, white vinegar, and a makeshift fuse fashioned from a Marlboro Light? You get Richard Dean Anderson guest-starring on the upcoming USA Network series ‘Facing Kate.’

Fancast has learned exclusively that the star of yes, ‘MacGyver,’ as well as ‘Stargate SG-1‘ will appear on at least five episodes of the fall series, which stars the totally gorgeous Sarah Shahi (’Life’) as Kate Reed, a top-flight litigator who leaves her firm to become a mediator.

Anderson’s ‘Facing Kate’ role is that of David Smith, a charismatic but secretive man who enters Kate’s life shortly after the death of her father. In short order, it is revealed that David has deeper connections to the Reed family.

Earlier this month, Anderson reprised his role of ‘SG-1’s Jack O’Neill on Syfy’s ‘Stargate Universe.’

Shahi’s ‘Facing Kate’ costars include Michael Trucco (’Battlestar Galactica’), Virginia Williams (’Monarch Cove’) and Baron Vaughn (’The Awkward Comedy Show’). Production began June 16 in Vancouver.

This really does sound horrible.....Why does this have to be the show that Shahi returns to tv with, AND Michael Trucco? They deserve so much better.....

"Kate" debuts in January
Quote:
FACING KATE centers on Kate Reed (Shahi), a top litigator frustrated with the endless bureaucracy and daily injustices she witnesses, who turns on the system to become the ultimate anti-lawyer: a mediator. Using her knowledge of the law, along with her savvy, intuition and a whatever-it-takes approach to resolving conflict, Kate finds the middle ground for a wide variety of adversaries -- from Fortune 500 corporations to bitter divorces. After the death of her father, she finds herself at odds with the new boss, her stepmother Lauren Reed (Virginia Williams)...and in bed with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Justin Patrick (Michael Trucco), a top gun in the DA’s office. Helping her keep all of this chaos at bay is her trusted, geek-chic assistant Leonardo (Baron Vaughn). FACING KATE was created and is written and executive produced by Michael Sardo. Steve Stark also serves as executive producer and the series comes from Universal Cable Productions.

My mom saved a promo for me on her DVR since she knows of my love affair for Sarah Shahi, but anyways the show is no longer called "Facing Kate", it is now known as "Fairly Legal" don't really care for the title, but I'm only interested in Sarah so what do I care, lol.

Okay the show has aired and I'm...um...meh.

I love Shahi, and both she and the guy playing her ex are more attractive than anyone deserves.

I thought the wizard of oz theme to her phone book was awesome and very creative.

I was heated the whole time at the idea of that one kid getting thrown to the wolves, because the system just didn't give a shit to get to the truth. Sadly that's how it is with the heavy caseloads, and people just wanting to close the book and move on, not worry about the casualties.

I also thought the idea of her living on a boat was pretty cool. That'd be great to do I think.

Everything else about the show was just meh. The D&D phone call between her assistant and the cop was great. but the acting by many in the show was terrible. I didn't give a shit about really anyone in the show aside from Shahi. I thought while the intro scene to her mediation (the robbery) was funny, but completely ridiculous.

I don't know really how entertaining a show about mediation is going to be. We're used to shows about cops and lawyers, which are heavy drama, and I suppose mediation COULD be, considering that they will be dealing with these same people that cops/lawyers are, but I just don't know.

I'll still watch the entire series, but I'm wondering if this will last beyond a single year.

That said, I didn't like Covert Affairs too much in it's 1st episode or two, but grew to like it, even if it is an Alias-Lite.

Like always, I enjoyed Sarah and her ass, even after she had children, it bounced back and that is a beautiful thing.

Michael Trucco was amusing as always, loved him on BSG though so I'm biased.

The whole time I was watching this I just kept thinking if Sarah was not on it, there's no way in hell I'd be watching it, cause for one it's USA network and two, I hate all of their shows, way too light and fluffy for me. I checked out the pilot but as much as I love Sarah, I don't know if I can put myself through watching a crappy show just for a hot tail.

Well count me in as a fan.

Besides the fact that Sarah Shahi is ridiculously hot and lights up the screen every time she appears on camera, I thought it was a fun and light hearted drama. The Legal genre has been done to death on network and cable TV, so I like that this show has taken a different approach to it. I'm not too familar with Legal Mediators, but I think they did a good job making Kate an interesting character and I want to know more about her and her profession.

I mean the Pilot wasn't perfect, alot of parts were groan inducing, especially the holdup in the coffee shop. I'm a fan of USA's shows and while Kate isn't as quirky as Michael Weston, Mary Shannon or Hank and Evan, I think she has potential.

It's only a 10 episode run and the Pilot got over 3.5M viewers, which is pretty good for USA. I think if it's numbers stay in that range, it's got a great shot. In Plain Sight gets similar ratings and got a 2 season renewal.

BTW, Groo you need to change the picture of Sarah in your OP.

There are a bunch of new promo photos of Sarah from Fairly Legal that are way hotter. You can find them on the show's facebook page.
