Avatar Region Coding..

My mate bought Avatar using the link on this site;

As you can see regarding playback it says that it is Region A, B.

He has a Region B PS3 (Ireland) so why is it not working? The disc tried to play and said it wasn’t valid for his region

I also checked http://bluray.liesinc.net/ where it is highlighted green (for region free) and says Coded AB

Am I missing something here? I feel bad cos I told him it was region free!!

The page just says C is untested, which doesn't necessarily mean it isn't region free.

Anywho, I find this weird too...

Axelmusic.com also verified the disc as regionfree. Weird.

Is the PS3 updated with the latest firmware?

Thanks for the replies guys.. He doesnt have the latest firmware update, brand new PS3.. But would that really make a difference? He's gutted he cant play it!!

update the firmware I tested the US version and it plays in a region B player, Its coded AB, region C is evidently locked

ok, problem solved!

my friend was putting in the DVD - included - instead of the BD!!!!

haha at least it is sorted now.

Oh and I guess it doesnt matter about having the latest firmware or not! Good to know!
