I just wish I could go into a local store in November and actually buy a PS3. I hate that these video game consoles are in such limited supply in the beginning. Most of us will have to wait till spring '07 to find one. I suppose preordering improves my odds but I'm always late to the party for that.

Here's an interesting article about how Sony couldn't demo the PS3 via HDMI at the GDC.

Not couldn't, more like wouldn't. I think this has been blown a bit out of proportion, as they have absolutely no idea why the demo hardware wasn't using the HDMI connection in the first place (it could very well be working fine). I agree that the answers Sony representatives provided are evasive, but they know these news sites are just looking to get this type of "scoop". I can guarantee you that very few companies would take the risk of changing a displays setup (especially using someone elses cables) live on site when it could potentially lead to unforseen problems.

Quite frankly, it doesn't bother me that they either didn't want to or just flat out couldn't. What really has me thinking is if what the article says is true, there will be some issues between HDMI 1.3 and 1.1 audio depending on what type of display one is using. If this is a universal problem between source components using HDIM 1.3 and displays using HDMI 1.1, I don't know, and whether it can be easily addressed is also something not to my knowledge but hopefully they can get their act together. It just doesn't look good for a company as huge as Sony to have a weak demo and further bewilder others.

It doesnt matter if your display is using HDMI 1.1 or 1.3.
Because, if you want to hear dolby HD or DTS HD, you need an HD receiver. You can connect your PS3 with your receiver (receiver must have 1.3), and your reciever to the tv. That way, you wont miss a thing. Right? |

HDMI 1.3 is only for sending ENCODED hd formats. All blue ray players will be able to send the Unencoded PCM signal over HDMI 1.1 or above. The uncoded PCM signal will be the same as the new HD formats. |
