I have a feeling they might make it dual format? Otherwise I don't know why it would be delayed, unless there were problems with BD profile 1.1?

Since it's obvious the format war is not going to be coming to a quick close this Christmas like many had hoped and expected (barring shock and awe out of nowhere of course)...Denon probably realizes this market simply is not ready for an uber expensive player right now.

What I read is it is not being released in Europe until Q2 2008, nothing about the US being delayed.

I don't think that's it. Denon wants a "statement" player and this one is it. It has nothing to do with most regular Blu-Ray buyers and will appeal to the high-end guys who have been waiting for something like this.

Denon will then flow-down the technology and build a series of less expensive players. This will all happen if they are confident that the market is strong enough to justify the expense of course.

There is nothing stated to this effect in Denon's website.

Good. I hope you're right.

Also good. As the OP titled his thread correctly: It's a rumor.

Boy, I hope the Denons aren't delayed either.
I have have some Fox DTS-MAs I want decoded....

Looking at the preliminary specs, the 2500 model would probably work best for me (have a pre/pro on order that will decode ALL formats via HDMI 1.3).

I hope it isn't delayed, I would like to read about that set up. Denon has some loyal customers and the fact the DVD-5910 sold for such a high price is evidence of that. What a price that thing demanded for just marginal improvements, although real based on all accounts I have read.

Over the years I have purchased both DVD Players and Receivers from Denon.
Very dependable...never a problem.
Excellent performers as well.
Heck, I still use most of them!

Default Clarification

Updated news (8/27) on Denon's, apparently European only, delay. Also, denial of combo rumors. Don't know why "reasons of a technical nature" would affect Europe only. Hopefully, we'll get some clarity at IFA and/or CEDIA.

Quote:
The Japanese entertainment electronics manufacturer Denon is postponing the European sales start of its first Blu-ray player DVD-3800BDCI until next year. This was confirmed by a press spokesman of the German branch office to heise online. This model is supposed to actually be the first Blu-ray player worldwide that is already based on BD profile 1.1 and therefore, among other things, masters parallel decoding of two video streams for picture-to-picture morphing functions (for example, video commentaries).

A specific date has still not been set for the release of the device on the German market. The spokesman did, however, contradict rumours saying that Denon would be releasing a combi-player for both HD disc formats following the power-shift in the struggle for the successor of the DVD format through the complete changeover of the Hollywood studios Paramount and Dreamworks to the HD-DVD faction. It is, though, not improbable that Denon will ultimately produce this type of device. The current delay is also due to reasons of a technical nature. Denon Germany could not make a prediction on when the global start for the player would be.

We will know about Denon's plans by next week.
No need to speculate.

How about delay it for a week, add a ethernet port and wi-fi, keep the price the same, and its 1.1 ready. I would love to have this thing but I just cant justify the online updating via SD cards for $1800

this is why I hate living in europe. they get everything last because of lots of language (PS games dubbing in local language can take months), different system, etc

I wish your luck, my DVD-1920 went back to the service center 5 times in one year. After the 5th time, I decided to give up on trying to get it fixed and decided never to buy another DVD player from Dennon. It still does not work properly.

The store I bought my speakers from has had other customers with similar issues on Dennon DVD players. But never with the receivers.
