Bitrates are a non-issue. 2D Blu-Rays have a peak rate of 40 megabits per second while 3D Blu-Ray can go up to 60. Since 3D Blu-Rays take up about 50% more information 3D Blu-Rays raise the bitrate to componstate However beyond marketing hype there is not one damn reason to separately encode a 2D version. |

I havent seen the new 3D version but the older 3D version with the paper glasses was kind of interesting because many shots had no 3D at all. I noticed this also recently when I saw Toy Story 3 in theaters... Some scenes remained 2D for whatever reason.. ...

MvA 3D does NOT contain the 2D version (see review on sites).
also the CLoudy w/Chance of Meatball 3D disc has 'shaking' issues when played back in 2D and black bars on left&right. i'm going to grab 2D versions in addition to the BD3D. |

Monsters vs Aliens does have a 2D version. It lacks compatiblity with certain 2D players due to a rushed limited release that it is. However a 2D version is on the disc and can be accessed through compatible players. All general 3D releases won't have this problem. Buying the 2D version of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, unless you must have the audio commentary, is throwing money down the crapper.

There is no separate 2D or 3D option in the menu, but all one has to do is turn off the 3D on the TV and it plays in 2D just fine. It's a simple button on the remote control. When I first started watching it, it would ask if I wanted to play in 3D or 2D. But after a while it quit asking lol. So I bet it would just automatically play in 2D on a normal TV. Quote:

Note, for a 2D to 3D conversion of filmed content this will likely not be an issue as the original photography is created directly by the director/cinematographer, and they are simply adding a 2nd eye. This is certainly going to be an issue for effects heavy live action as well as CG animation features (Pixar, etc). |

Panasonic hasn't announced it yet, but on September 4th, the Coraline and Ice Age 3 offer ends. That's because on September 4th, Panasonic is releasing a new starter kit at Best Buy, Vann's and other select retailers that includes 2 pairs of glasses and both films in the box. Price of the box is $349.99, but it is expected that this starter kit will be given away for free when purchased with a TV in the very near future. Avatar will also be bundled later on. Here is a link where you can see the packaging and/or order it on Vann's website. Best Buy should have the kit in stock in 2-4 weeks.

Nice....so these two films will STILL be exclusive for a certain amount of time. If nothing else, they should be more common thus cheaper on Ebay now

Hmm, I don't know. It would be nice to be able to pick up these two movies.
Combined with the official releases and How To Train your Dragon. PLus, Maybe Avatar with the 3D player. That would be an awesome 3D collection to have so soon. Things are starting to get a bit too costly though, and I can't use the Panasonic glasses. Any idea on how long this deal will last? |

I'm betting the bundle will go until the Avatar bundle starts, or possibly, until the 2011 models are introduced, which should begin starting in February. Another possibility is that the exclusivity deal ends on December 31st. Either way, you'll probably be able to find this kit until the end of the year. |

I know it was posted in the Panasonic exclusive thread, but a thread for the retail release would be good as well.
According to a listing by Universal Studios Home Entertainment, it seems there are plans to release 'Coraline' on Blu-ray 3D for retail release on January 4th, 2011. I have done a bit of research on this release, and everything is listed rather mysteriously at the moment. Panasonic 3DTV owners are already aware that the included Coraline Blu-ray 3D promo release featured no bonus features, but English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. There appears to be a chance that the Blu-ray release will be packaged as a combo pack, including a DVD and Digital Copy of the film. However, I am not sure if the Blu-ray 3D disc will include any actual features this time around either as there is nothing listed. There is a DVD and Digital Copy listed which are specific, and the Blu-ray 3D disc is specific....just no extras listed. There is DTS-HD MA. The Digital Copy expires in 2012 it appears, and a DVD includes special features... I will continue to ask around about this release and will update you if I hear anything more. |
