I'm really wanting this on BD, but I don't know which release to get. Is the 2008 release better than the 2006 release?

2006 = Dolby Digital
2008 = PCM & Dolby True HD

I've had this BD for years. Watched it once and had a pretty good time, but never had the urge to watch it again. I recommend a rent, unless you can find it fairly cheap.

I have the 2006 version since I only paid $10 for it and I think the regular Dolby Digital sounds o.k, but certainly not great. If you can get the 2008 version for cheap then grab it.

Since you already made up your mind to buy it. Buy the 2008 release - even if you don't have lossless audio capability now, you may in the future.

I remember people on this forum back before the 2008 release, were paying top dollar for the limited lossless audio bluray (2006) that was part of a package deal or something. They were paying upwards of $50 for the movie.

Buy the 2008 version!

First thing I do when I walk into any store that has BDs on their shelves is look for a PCM version. Here in Canada it seems the stock isn't depeleting quick enough for the newer version to make an appearance.

I ended up purchasing Superman The Movie and Superman Returns at the same time when they were on sale for $12 and $15 respectively. They really are worth buying as long you can find them for a reasonable price.

If you have to pay $20 or 30, then they're not worth buying but rather renting.

Yeah, I've checked SO many stores in Toronto, Canada for the PCM version and have yet to find a copy.

Thanks for the info guys! I went to Best Buy today & they only had the 2006 version, & it was $24.99! I think I'm going to wait for it to go on sale somewhere online before I buy it! I didn't leave empty handed though, I got the Batman 20th Anniversary Digibook & Batman Returns for $20 each!

This is total YMMV, but I got my copy of Superman Returns (2006) for $9 at Ross, the discount clothing and housewares store. If you have one in your area, it might be worth taking a look in. I also bought Season 3 of DEADLIEST CATCH there--4 disc blu-ray set of one of my favorite shows for $14

So weird, I went to Ross also! lol Me & my Mom had a shopping day, had to help find a dress for her to wear @ a wedding. But our Ross store didn't have any Blu-rays!

Yeah, they pop up without warning, though. Usually, they have the cheap "Baddest Bugs" or "Gettysburg Address" blu-rays, but once in a while a good one slips in. We have 3 Ross stores around here and all of them had at least one copy of Deadliest Catch.

I ordered the superman returns blu ray with the trueHD/PCM track from the warner bros store a few years back. it was very hard to find. worth looking at the wb store.
