United Kingdom Layer Cake - Different UK versions...??

Been looking at picking this up on BD. I've noticed that there appears to be 2 different covers for this.

1. Car/Jeep on the front
2. Daniel Craig/Sienna Miller on the front

Are these completely different versions? Or did they just change the cover on different pressings?

The only one I see listed on here is no. 2. Struggling to find much info on the car/jeep version.

I've always wondered that

I have the one with Daniel Craig on the cover.

They changed the artwork when Craig got the Bond gig. Disc's the same.

That would have made sense for the DVD, but the Blu-ray was released after Casino Royale came out (same day as the CR DVD/BD in fact.)

Anyway I've got the Rover/iron cover.

Very strange this. I believe there's actually 3 different Blu-rays due to Sony having nothing better to do with their marketing department and slip cover design Photoshop guy. The older one (with jeep on the cover) also has a label on the box and then I seen a newer one with a different font (still the jeep) but the label was actually printed on the artwork (so wasn't a label obviously -but it looked like one). That last one might b a rental as it screamed about PlayStation and barely mentioned it was an errrr... Blu-ray.

The newest version (above) is mine. There is images around showing another version with the British and Irish censors' mark (and it's an "18").

It's very confusing for the buyer. That's not good marketing.

If unsure buy them all or none

Love the movie BTW.

Layer Cake had several different theatrical posters including the Range Rover/iron and the lower half of a girl in stockings and suspenders. The film underperformed at the box office because these obscure images meant the prospective audience didn't have a clue what the film was about. Great marketing. The image of Craig photoshopped with the artillery Luger showed up when he was confirmed as Bond. The US one sheet is mostly red and made of circles with Craig holding a Type 67 pistol. The US DVD had a cast montage over a yellow/black background, both of the last two look pretty good. The book's well worth reading

Has it got the same specs (as the one listed on this site)?

Excellent. Sorry for all the Q's but is it a BD50?

I see its mpeg2 encode, which I know can be good when high bitrates are used. Unless they've skimped on a BD25.

It's MPEG2 with LPCM audio, but it doesn't have a French dub or all those subtitle tracks.

Specs are the same as the back cover of the Craig/Miller version posted above though, so the info on this site is probably just incorrect.

Yes, it's a BD50. Average video bitrate is 26.58 Mbps.

For those who like the film check out this release on DVD;

It's even got subtitles in Hindi! Very handy if you errrr... are Hindi I guess.

I don't mind them Bonding things up a bit cos this is a very intelligent little thriller/drama and the more that see it the merrier. It's got a really fab no punches pulled ending too! 8/10 for me. The Blu-ray is an excellent transfer and comes in at 32GB:

And they've even ported over the Hindi subtitles from the DVD!

does cover matter? one difference is that the UK version is distributed by Columbia Pictures instead of Sony Pictures Classics does anyone know if the UK Blu Ray has the Columbia Pictures logo because I'm from the UK and even on Netflix over there the film has the Sony Pictures Classics logo at the beginning however on the DVD the Columbia logo itself isn't part of the film itself and unlike the rest of the film is PAL pitched after the "Released by Columbia Pictures" at the end the Sony Pictures Classics logo strangely appears after it

The version on the UK blu opens with the Columbia Pictures logo (which fades to black & white to match the opening shot). The end credits end with the blue Sony Pictures Classics logo.
