![]() ![]() Space: 1999: The Ultimate Space 1999 Collection Blu-ray ![]() ![]() Space: 1999: The Complete First Series Blu-ray ![]() Does anybody know if Network will be releasing their special edition restoration of season 1? I had read that these were mastered to HD during the restorations (same as The Prisoner) and that they were anticipating releasing them in HD. ![]() Last edited by Deciazulado; 03-05-2022 at 07:50 PM. |

The first season has been remastered in HD in 2004 from the 35 mm original material, and some episodes have been broadcast on ITV-HD in 2006. The 2005 Network Video DVD set is supposedly based on this HD master, but I find it generally inferior to the Carlton release for many reasons. See those comparisons for yourself.
Carlton DVD vs. Network DVD http://www.space1999.net/catacombs/m...mvdvduk2a.html At first glance, colours seem much warmer and "natural" in the Network version, but the PQ problems are immediately obvious. The colour balance borders on the red side and all nuances of red, yellow and pink have turned into bright orange. As well, contrast has been set on maximum and many outdoor details have disappeared in what looks like a massive bloom shader. Just look at the fifth screenshot comparison ("series created by") to have an idea of the overall PQ damage in the Network version. While the Carlton version appears a tad blueish, its colour balance is more solid and satisfying. Network DVD vs. ITV-HD broadcast http://www.space1999.net/catacombs/m...de/upimhd.html Those screenshot comparisons from the title sequence and the two episodes "War Games" and "Black Sun" speak for themselves. The new HD master is vastly superior to the Network version. If a BD set is to be ever released, I expect it to look even better than that broadcast version (as long as the original 4:3 ratio is respected). Last edited by Kaminari; 03-29-2010 at 02:44 PM. There are too many screenshots for me to post them here.
Besides, the links work perfectly fine. Try replacing http://space1999 with http://www.space1999, or copy and paste the links in another window (might be a hotlink protection problem). |

This is what I got from Aintcool today:
![]() A few weeks ago, I giddily announced that SPACE: 1999 would be coming to Blu-Ray later this year. We now have a few more details to share about the forthcoming Season 1 (Series 1) set. There's been a little bit of confusion regarding whether these Blu-Rays would feature a new HD transfer, or if they'd somehow utilize the very handsome remasters we enjoyed when this series hit DVD a few years back. The answer is...yes...to both. Before the release of the SPACE: 1999 DVDs that are currently on the market, a new HD transfer of the entire series was undertaken. This HD transfer was then down converted for the show's standard DVD release. These new Blu-Rays will utilize the full extent of the same HD transfer (i.e. the one that was downconverted) - but this'll be the first time we've seen the series in actual HD, and I'm told it looks fantastic. Network DVD, which is releasing the SPACE: 1999 Blus in the UK on October 11, has posted more information about extras to be included in the Season 1 set on its website. Not all of the extras seen on the UK release will make it onto A&E's issuance of the title here in the U.S. So, if you're Geeking for a particular feature you see on the list below, you might consider importing the Blu-Ray from U.K. - which also means you'll need a region free device to play it. Nonetheless, here's a list that at least gives us a hint at what'll be contained on the U.K. set (even though, annoyingly and illogically, the U.S. set will have less of it). • Digitally restored, High Definition transfers • Dolby 5.1 tracks • Original 'as broadcast' mono track • Music-only tracks on all episodes except Breakaway and Dragon’s Domain • Anderson commentary on Breakaway and Dragon’s Domain • Extensive HD image galleries of rare and previously unseen stills • HD image galleries of gum and cigarette cards • HD restored, textless titles • HD, digitally restored version of series two episode The Metamorph • "These Episodes" featurettes (selected individual episode analysis – expanded version from that seen on the DVD) • "Memories of Space” featurette • Sylvia Anderson interview • Series One textless generic titles • "Horizon" behind the scenes footage • "Concept and Creation" featurette • Special effects and design featurette • Text episode commentaries on The Last Sunset and Space Brain’ • "Clapperboard" two-part special on the work of Gerry Anderson from 1975 • "Guardian of Piri Remembered" • Barry Gray's theme demo • Alternative opening and closing titles • Martin Landau and Barbara Bain US Premier intro and outro • SFX plates and deleted SFX scenes - with music track • Alien Attack - trailers • Journey Through the Black Sun – trailer • ad bumpers • Lyons Maid ice Lolly advert • Script PDFs • Annual PDFs • Commemorative booklet Cya Gus |

My copy arrived today, got number 0070 of 1999
![]() Just to clear a few things up... - the discs work with my player set to Region A so must be A/B encoded - the menus are 1080p/24 so should work on a US player - the audio is actually DTS 5.1 and not DD5.1 as stated on the packaging - it comes with a 46 page booklet - the Limited Edition packaging is just a slipcase over the regular edition which has Martin Landau and Barbara Bain on the cover, I much prefer the slipcase artwork |

It's coming. From their now-deaad sales page for Destination Mooonbase Alpha: "Space:1999 - Countdown to Series 2 The countdown is under way! After months of speculation, one of our most hotly-anticipated releases is set for lift-off in 2015 - Space: 1999 - The Complete Second Series. Stunningly restored in a brand-new high definition transfer from original film elements, this iconic series is set to look better than ever, and will be released in a complete series set on Blu-ray and DVD in autumn 2015. Space: 1999: The Bringers of Wonder We know you can't wait that long... and neither can we. So, as a foretaste of what's in store, we're releasing two episodes ahead of schedule: providing fans with their first glimpse of the incredible restoration work that has been done on the series. THE BRINGERS OF WONDER was the only two-part episode in the entire run of Space:1999 and very soon, you'll be able to see it as never before on blu-ray, in restored HD quality, along with a new HD transfer of the feature film version 'Destination: Moonbase-Alpha.' But you'll have to act fast – just as the wandering moon never stays in one place for long, so too with this limited edition release. Just 1999 copies are being produced, in a digipack format that will be deleted from our catalogue as soon as it sells out. Get it now... before it goes out of orbit!" |

US fans should be aware that when Year 2 does appear it's almost certain to be locked to Region B.
The Network Year 1 release being region free appears to have been an error as no subsequent ITC/ITV releases from Network including The Bringers Of Wonder have been region free. |
