Default Best Headphones for Movies and Music

I've done some research and it seems that the Sennheisers are one of the best headphone companies around.

I'll be using it for...
All types of movies
and mostly metal music (with some prog rock and ambient stuff as well)

What are some recommendations or user opinions?

Grado Labs is supposed to be very good. No experience myself.

Best headphones I every heard in my life was 20 years ago from a company called Stax.

Someone I knew was buying them and I went with him. I brought Joe Jacksons Body and Soul (one of my favs at the time) as my listener disc - and oh my god it was a revelation. Just incredible. As was the price.

After much hunting around I settled on Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. for film and general use. It's basically a DJ-type design with excellent passive noise attenuation (c. 30db IIRC). Had them for a year now and am very satisfied. I would say they are tuned with a slight bias to the low-mids and lows.

Like metal? Try these with Metallica's black album on DVD-Audio. A triple espresso for the ears.

Alternately for a totally different design you could try Etymotic Research ER-4 earphones. I've got these for portable use and more delicate types of music (usually listen to my few SACDs through these). Very neutral, some say reference-grade sound without the exaggerated bass response of some headphones.

Thank you. I've had the 280's in my Amazon wish list for awhile now. Guess it's time to add it to the cart.

Metallica? not my thing.

In Flames, Mercenary, Dream Theater, Decapitated, Dark Tranquillity, Symphony X, Devildriver, Nile, Kamelot, Zyklon, Behemoth, Darkane, Hateform, Ion Dissonance, Legion of the Damned, Mnemic, Scar Symmetry, Seventh Wonder, Wintersun and etc. for me
