Default Blu-ray animé fans - support the cause!

To anyone out there who is both an anime and a Blu-ray fan - support the cause by picking up a copy of "Wings Of Honneamise" on Blu-ray!

Some places already have it in stock - apparently even before the HD-DVD version. I've already placed my order and I hope others will also pick up this great film and send a strong message to anime distributors that anime fans prefer Blu-ray and will buy releases on the format. I'm hoping this release will show a similar sales split as 300 did for thetrical films

Here's a link to my personal favorite store's Honneamise page - note that only the Blu-ray version is listed as in stock so far:

I think I'll pick this one up when I go to Japan next time. For this kind of price, I want the original.

From what I understand, both versions are the same. The only difference between the Japan and US version is the DVD of WoH is Region encoded for Japan(2) and USA/Canada(1), and the booklet that comes with it is translated for the US release. Other than that the blu-ray movie is identical. So both versions shouldn't be different, but I understand you desire for the original (I'm that way too the majority of the time).

Looking forward to this as well. I've always heard good things about WoH but never got around to picking up the DVD. Glad I waited though. Sadly I pre-ordered it on Amazon and mine won't ship until September 11. At least my Patlabor 1/2 and GitS blu-ray should be here soon.

They are shipping the identical disc to both countries. The only difference is that the booklet and packaging are in English

Is that right? I have little use for the DVD so that doesn't matter either way. If the BD is identical, maybe I'll pick up the US version then. I can read both languages so the booklet can be in either (as long as they don't screw up the translation that is ).

Thanks to you and WickyWoo for letting me know.

I am not going to pick up Wings Of Honneamise, but I will be getting Dragon Ball z and Tekkonkinkreet. I wonder if Disney has plans on releasing any Studio Ghibli titles. I would pick them up in a heart-beat.

The BD is Region A at least (likely all-region) ,and the DVD is R1 and 2.

I have it direct from their VP's lips that all of their Blu discs will be identical to the Japanese version.

I knew the region coding of BD (which also explains the extreme high MSRP of this title in the US), I was just wondering if there are any differences regarding subtitles and such. In the past US DVDs of anime's often did not include Japanese subtitles.

If you heard from the horse's mouth (so to speak), I have no doubt they will indeed be identical though.

thank
gandalf

Their philosophy is "one disc for the world"

Literally the exact same disc

I too would love to see more Studio Ghibli movies on Blu-ray. So far they only released one movie in Japan (Iblard Jikan, which is gorgeous to say the least), and I believe they should be releasing more of their catalog on Blu-ray eventually. Hopefully they will include subtitles with their releases so we won't have to wait for Disney or Miramax. I would love to see Mononoke or Howl's on Blu.

I'd buy any anime on Blu-ray, lol. I tried to get that Final Fantasy that just came out, but every Best-Buy in my area is sold out ( I guess that's a good sign about Blu-ray and anime fans).
