Japan Ace Combat Assault Horizon - Out Now !

Ace Combat Assault Horizon prepares for takeoff

Quote:
Ace Combat fans can get ready to fly the unfriendly skies once again, as Namco Bandai today announced Ace Combat Assault Horizon for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Set for release next year, the game will be the first console iteration in the series since 2007's Xbox 360-exclusive Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.
Namco Bandai confirmed single-player and online multiplayer options for Assault Horizon, but few other details were given about the latest effort from series developer Project Aces. A teaser trailer suggested the game will be a rebirth for the franchise, with one quickly glimpsed text message at the outset promising, "This one's a game changer." The clip showed dogfights through downtown skyscrapers that jettisoned debris when struck with missiles, helicopter battles, and turret-gunning sequences.
While a new Ace Combat hasn't been seen on consoles in nearly three years, the series has since appeared on the handheld radar a couple of times. Last year saw the debut of Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion for the iPhone, while the PSP receives its second installment of the franchise, Ace Combat: Joint Assault, later this month.

and
indeed!

Its about friggin time! Air Combat on PS1 is still one of my favourite dog fighting games. I haven't played one since Shattered Skys on PS2 which I still throw in once in a while.

Sucks we have to wait so long, its not like they havent had enough time to work on it already. I am just happy its back on playstation and not an xbox exclusive like the last one, which I never understood as all the prior games were playstation only.

I hope they don't go too much with the arcade style on this.

It's about damn time!

One question though. Judging from video shown in the trailer, players are playing as the USAF?! So what about those Russian planes like the SU-37? Are we not going to be able to fly them?

August 10, 2010

- NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc Presents Explosive Sky-shredding Aerial Combat Like You’ve Never Seen Before, Coming 2011 -

NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe kicks the tires, lights the fires and makes its peace with terra firma for the announcement of ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON, coming 2011 to Xbox 360® and PlayStation®3. Never before has aerial combat been so fast, so in-your-face and so vicious. It’s time to set the sky on fire.

The demanding Project Aces development team at NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. in Japan weren’t satisfied. They wanted more from the series. They wanted planes that tore apart limb from limb right in front of your face, spewing their oil lifeblood across the sky. They wanted to scrape the streets and dodge the steel skyscrapers of real world cities at blistering speeds, in an enthralling war drama that spanned the globe with a web of intrigue. They wanted players to pick up the controller and become deadly combat pilots in seconds, pulling off breathtaking kills at impossible speeds, and doing battle online in a multiplayer sky littered with fiery supersonic debris. What they wanted was steel carnage in the sky.

The result is not a sequel in the multi-million selling smash hit ACE COMBAT series, but a complete rebirth, a phoenix from the ashes flying at three times the speed of sound. The Project Aces team is building ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON from the ground up, with new technology fuelling their passionately realised vision of a game that puts players in the dark heart of the fight like no aerial combat game has done before.

“For us, this is a rebirth of the Ace Combat series, and a chance for us to take the series in a completely new direction,” said Kazutoki Kono, Producer at Project Aces, NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. “We’re confident that we’re going to create a new kind of action shooting (high-speed and destruction) experience with ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON, and we’re pouring passion, vision and skill into making a game like no other. We want to bring players closer than ever to the action so they feel the energy surge through them with every shot fired.”

ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON for Xbox 360® and PlayStation®3 is scheduled to launch across EMEA and Asia Pacific (not including Japan) in 2011.

Stay in radio contact with ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON at www.acecombat-assaulthorizon.com and watch the skies for more details coming soon.

Nice, Ace Combat 4 for the PS2 was one of my favorite games for that system... so polished. AC2 and the futuristic AC3 Electrosphere are classics in my book as well.

More 'adult' and grounded in reality than that, but SkyGunner looks fun too.

New Trailer :

Quote:
Namco are showing off a load of stuff in Dubai at their “Level Up” event and we’ve just got a bunch of new details about Ace Combat: Assault Horizon.

Here’s what we now know:

* The release date will be the 14th of October.
* Super-precise shooting when you’re in close combat, you can do stuff like shoot the wheels off of bombers and you’ll get your vision splattered with oil.
* Where we’re going there won’t be damage gauges, instead the screen will turn red and damage will heal over time.
* Thanks to satellite photos, all levels are really accurate.
* We’ll be meeting Air Strike mode to change it up from dogfights. This mode is all about getting low to he ground and if you get a good hit the camera will zoom right in to show you a sweet explosion.
* We can look forward to flying around 17+ locations.
* The story revolves around chasing a bomb some insurgents have got a hold of.
* Everything will be POV, including the cockpit.
