So, I guess that means no profile 1.1 for yet another Blu-ray player. I had my hopes up, oh well.

I'd be very surprised if Sony announced and delivered another 1.0 player. The spec says players after Oct have to be 1.1 but nothing says a company won't release one early. Sony may wanna shut down the "still hasn't delivered on the promised features" crap.

I figured if someone posted something, it might be up for discussion.

Silly me. Won't happen again.

As I understand it, the BD 1.1 specs become mandatory with players released after 10/31. To me, that means 1.1 is optional in players released before that date.

Whats the point of Sony releasing another Profile 1.0 player? I mean the BDP-S300 was the cheaper version of the BDP-S1 so why bring in another?

Surely if 1.1 wasn't ready Sony should stick with the S300 and just drop the price to around $250? Then keep the 1.1 players at around $500

This is of course just speculations from my side, but I don't see the point of any new profile 1.0 players at this point of time. I would guess that BDP-S500 will be a profile 2.0 player, and if I were Sony I would come out with a profile 1.1 player "BDP-S310" later this year.

I agree with others on this thread in that there is no reason for another profile 1.0 player. Paramount' decision to switch to HD DVD and using IME as part of the excuse is really starting to result in some bad press for Blu-Ray. It has been more than 1 year now. We really should have a Profile 1.1 player on the market, or Sony should announce a firmware update for the PS3 to profile 1.1 to take the heat off, and allow folks who are concerned about 1.1 a chance to buy a player this year. I prefer Blu-Ray over HD DVD, but the BDA needs to get their act together. Fast. It seems like HD DVD is getting much more aggressive and the BDA needs to start throwing some couterpunches before the holidays.

Be patient another six days!!! CEDIA will reveal what merchandise will be available now through the end of the year, especially products available during the holiday season. Don't be surprized to see your wishes coming to fruition. I expect this will be the most significant CEDIA event in years. I am already aware of pre-Amps and Receivers max'd out with every audio codec decoders in them, multiple - upsampling all video sources and resolutions up to and including to 1080p/24fps, 4-5 HDMI Ins and 1 HDMI Out. I expect wonderous thing to be revealed, so again, be patient. We are only days away from 'Nirvana' !!!

While with the BDP-S300 above all High definition Einsteiger are to be lured, the BDP-S500 addresses itself as Sonys of new High end Player to more fastidious home cinema enthusiasts. Both devices support an expenditure to 1080p and scale also the DVD picture on this dissolution highly. In connection with 24p-kompatiblen flat picture televisions and projectors also an expenditure is also supported with motion picture film usual 24 Bildern/s, which saves a conversion and with it if necessary accompanying an additional Ruckler. In addition BDP-S300 and -500 offer a HDMI-1.3-Ausgabe. While only the BDP-S500 supports also the HDMI 1,3 presupposing sound formats Dolby TrueHD (Decoding and bit Stream expenditure over HDMI) and DTS hp High resolution audio (bit Stream expenditure over HDMI), both devices can spend filmmaterial with the extended color area xvYCC, which corresponds to the 1,8fachen extent of sRGB. Thus a more natural, fuller and more realistic color reproduction is to become possible. There are not appropriate xvYCC Blu ray films yet, but but both devices can show the AVHCD material of video cameras, which can take up already with xvYCC Farbraum - called by Sony also x.v.Colour -. There are already some televisions, whose panels can represent a larger color area, their spreading is however still too small, so that xvYCC only in some years also in the mass-market a larger role might play. Sony BDP-S500 Sony BDP-S500 both devices can besides beside Blu ray Discs, DVDs and audio CDs also JPEG and MP3-Dateien of CD and DVD show. The BDP-S500 supports beyond that BD-R/RE Discs in the BDMV format. Both the BDP-S300 and the BDP-S500 became the function "BRAVIA Theatre Sync" spendiert, Sonys name for the cross-linking of entertainment electronics via HDMI CEC for common control. Sonys enter-suppl.-guesses/advises BDP-S300 is starting from in the middle of September 2007 for 599, - euro and thus to the current PlayStation-3-Preis appear - at Toshibas Einsteiger Player does not approach to Sony thereby concerning the price not. Sonys of new High end Blu ray Player BDP-S500 comes only at the end of of October 2007 for 899, - euro on the market. Both devices become two films ("Hitch - the DATES Doktor", "Der Patriot") are attached, three further ("Spider "Spider-Man 3", "50 first Dates" and "Das props after Glueck") come to the registration with Sony by post office.
