Question Stacking DVD's vs blu-ray in space savings.

I need someone with enough DVD and blu-ray titles to actually make a stack comparison.

I know 3 DVD cases is equal to 4 blu-ray cases in width. I also fit 5 blu-rays in a 4 DVD sleeve.

The question is, if you have 10 DVD's stacked, how many blu-ray can you stack to the same height? My guess is about 13 or 14 without going over.

Thanks to all who try.

13.3333333333... if your 3:4 ratio is correct.

Oh you wanted a real check - one sec.

Yeah 13 BDs with a smidge of space to 10 DVDs. I used a single studio (FOX) for my DVD sample since those cheaper, partial cardboard cases seemed to be thinner than the all plastic.

Sounds great guys. Seems 30+ percent savings is right. That will be welcome space when I convert to mostly blu. Thanks to all.

Now, what if you did 15 or 20?

I've already stated this a few weeks ago on another thread. For a row of 50 DVD's you can fit around 66 to 67 Blu-rays.

Remember that Blu-cases are a little less tall too so if you can adjust your shelves accordingly you might fit an extra shelf somewhere.

For some reason, the UK Blu-ray cases are the same thickness as DVD. Same width and height as other Blu-ray cases, but thicker. Can anyone from the UK explain why?

I recently imported Bruce Almighty, Crimson Tide and Starship Troopers from the UK.

However, the Infernal Affairs import from Hong Kong is the normal North American Blu-ray case.

That's odd. I just got a German version of The Island (Die Insel) on Blu-ray from a UK seller and the case is thin like any other.

I guess I'm seeing just the UK version at this point. I've yet to import a German disc (although I no doubt will eventually).

Zowie! Let's see, my self holds 38 across... using my original formular of 4 blu to every 3 DVD.. 38 / 3 = 12.6666.

So, that is about 50 with room to spare on the same shelf. woo hoo.
